IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
In-class Music Performance Days April 29 thru May 3
Music Performance Days (K-5th only)
When: April 29th-May 3rd (B, C, *A days)
Big picture:
The Music department will be facilitating the annual performance days in-class (Music rooms only) for all grade levels during the normal Special Area's rotation. We aim to create a safe space for students to show-off their skills, talents, and aspirations without any competition or pressure to perform.
Participation is not required. Students are encouraged to sign-up to participate with us in-class, but are not required to do so.
How it works:
Please plan to discuss the possibility with your child about any ideas to prepare a short 2-or-3-minute performance slot. They may sign-up solo, duet, or group style and/or in any combination. However, it is expected that they take the time to practice in advance, sign-up in class (so we know what music they want provided), and bring whatever they need that is not already in our rooms. You are welcome to send us links to songs or requests. Instrumentalists -- please bring your own book or sheet music, in addition to your instrument.
Things we provide:
• Basic sports/dance/gym mats and equipment that can be safely used (if something doesn't seem suitable for the room, please email a link to a short video instead)
• Amps, mics, electric or acoustic guitars, drumset, piano, ukelele, hand drums
• Access to a karaoke video with clean versions of pop/rock/hip-hop songs
• Background music for: jokes, art, magic, casual sports or tricks, etc.
• Small stage with gym mats for acrobatics, martial arts, or group/duet acting
• Bird's Eye camera for artists to demonstrate their creations
• Area for magic tricks for props or puppets, reader's theater
• Videogames/computer apps or graphic demos are not allowed. Sorry!
Almost anything goes!
Most importantly, it must be appropriate content material for school and rehearsed ahead-of-time.
Performance is Optional
Students who are not participating are expected to be engaged listeners and audience members to show support for their classmates.
<*Wed, April 1st is an *A day so students in Music on that day will only have one opportunity to participate. In case of an unexpected absence, please contact us if they were planning to perform.>
Thank you so much for your support of Music and the lifelong development of a performing artist. A little encouragement goes a long way. If anyone experiences nervousness or stage fright, we will appropriately and discreetly encourage trying, without any added pressure to change their mind, of course! As always, we are here for anyone who wants to be ready to discover what they never thought they could do for an audience.
Let's Rock this! Email our Music Teachers with any questions:

Ms. Rabago Jennifer.RotterRabago@austinisd.org
Thank you for supporting our Buy-A-Spot Fundraiser!
Our Buy-A-Spot fundraiser was a huge success! We raised $10,445, which funds two important positions on our campus:
1. Part-time Intervention Teacher
2. Tech Support
These roles are filled by Cindy Little and Deborah Arya, and they provide invaluable services to our children. Our school budget from AISD does not fund these positions, so your generous support is sincerely appreciated! THANK YOU!
Check out the fabulous Summer Camps being hosted by our Clayton Partners!

Change to arrival starting April 22
Starting Monday, April 22, the back driveway will be open for parents driving cars to drop off their children from 7:30-7:40 only.
The back driveway is for students who can independently and quickly exit their vehicles. Safety patrol will not be present at the back to assist students by opening and closing doors.
Cars must pull up all the way to the front, which is the end of the 5th grade hallway.
Please leave the crosswalk clear for students walking to school.
All cars exiting to LaCrosse, including those using the back driveway, must turn right on LaCrosse.
If your child walks from the community center trail:
They will need to use the crosswalk by the portables/first grade wing, or the back crosswalk, from 7:30-7:40.
Staff will be stationed at the crosswalk by the portables/first grade wing to help students cross safely. Staff will also be stationed at the back crosswalk.
Requirements for Arrival and Dismissal if you drive a car

- encourage your child to get their backpack and other belongings ready when you enter the driveway, so they can make a quick exit

General Registration Is Open NOW
All returning students must register for the upcoming school year. If you missed registering during Priority Registration, please register now during the period of General Registration. Registering early helps us with staffing and class placement. Returning students do not need to provide enrollment documents, i.e. Birth Certificate, immunization record, nor a previous report card. If your child is not returning, please email amy.turnage@austinisd.org
New AISD COVID-19 Protocol
Austin ISD has changed the district policy for staff and students to align with the updated CDC Respiratory Virus Guidance (link). AISD Health Services and Nursing will recommend (but not require) students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 to be out for 24 hours after the date of test positivity. Masking upon return to school will remain optional, but recommended for 5 days if symptomatic.
Families should inform our school if their child test positive for COVID-19 by emailing our nurse, Jenny Ribera, at Jenny.Ribera@austinisd.org

Trail of Resolution
The Trail of Resolution is a problem-solving path we will use at Clayton Elementary. The purpose of the Trail of Resolution is to address questions and concerns in an effective and efficient manner. If you have a question or concern, first contact the person who is directly involved in the situation. For example, if you have a question or concern about something in the classroom, first contact the teacher to seek clarification. Follow the trail if the concern persists.
Teacher → Assistant principal → Principal
RAVE = Recognizing All Valuable Employees
Has someone at Clayton gone above and beyond for your family? Austin ISD uses the RAVE platform to Recognize All Valuable Employees. To send someone a RAVE, use the link/button at the bottom of this newsletter. The employee and principal receive an email to celebrate their recognition. Thank you!
