Almond Thursday Word
10/24/2019
From the Principal
Dear Almond Families,
Join us tomorrow afternoon from 3:30-5:30 for our annual Almond Halloween carnival! There will be games, yummy food and costumes aplenty! Please remember that though students are not allowed to wear their costumes during the school day, we can’t wait to see them in their creative get-ups starting at 3:30! Also, this is not a drop-off event, so please be sure to stay with your kiddos for the afternoon.
We hope to see everyone there in their spookiest or silliest costume! Thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped support this fun event! Please note: no weapons or gory props!
Also, be on the lookout for details on an upcoming Principal Coffee! I can’t wait to share the current research and skills I learned after attending a leadership institute at Teachers College at Colombia University. The topic of the principal chat will be “The Importance of Reading and Writing in your Child’s Life: Understanding How you can Make a Difference in Your Child’s Achievement."
Here’s to a ghostly good time tomorrow!
~RaquelP.s. Thank you to Mrs. Day-Bobb’s 3rd grade class for sharing their best mathematical thinking yesterday at the PTA meeting!

Halloween Carnival TOMORROW!! 3:30-5:30
We hope to see everyone at the Almond PTA Halloween Carnival this Friday, October 25, from 3:30 - 5:30 pm!
We are still in need of volunteers, especially for setup, cleanup and operation of games. If we don't find enough people to help we will have to close some of the activities and games. Please consider signing up for a shift or two here. If we all help, everyone will have a spooky-fun time with traditional games, decorations, snacks and pumpkin-carving contest. It's fun for the whole family and the proceeds benefit Almond. Save time before the carnival and purchase tickets in advance before and after school on Thursday and Friday in the rotunda.
Parent costumes are optional, but always add to the fun!

From LASD Health Services
LAEF Proudly Sponsors Art and STEM
Let’s celebrate our amazing art program! Unique to LASD, the Art Docent program teaches each TK-6th grade student to explore art through appreciation and participation. Over 85 art lessons are taught in every elementary school classroom 4-9 times a year. Find out what your child’s been learning in art this year.
STEM Career Days
Interested in igniting young minds? We are looking for volunteers to help us plan the 4th Annual STEM Career Days at Egan and Blach. STEM careers incorporate and extend beyond just science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The intent of this day is to give our 7th and 8th grade students an opportunity to learn about the different professions within the STEM field. This school year, the event will be held on Feb 3 & 4.
If you would like to get involved, please email LASD STEM Coordinator Karen Wilson or Anjana Nagarajan-Butaney.
Help Us Reach Our Goal
If you have yet to make your annual donation to LAEF, Donate or Pledge today and help fund teachers at your neighborhood school this school year. The suggested donation is $1,200 per student or $120/month per student. Every donation of any amount is appreciated.
Community Engagement Process for our Local Schools
You’re Invited! Community Engagement Process for Our Local Schools
The Los Altos School District (LASD) has initiated a Community Engagement Process to involve the public in formulating a long term facilities plan to house Bullis Charter School (BCS) and ensure a top quality education for all children.
We value your perspective and welcome your participation in a process to envision the future of education in our neighborhoods.
The charrettes and workshops will have the same format, so you only need to attend one of each.
Workshops:
Saturday, November 2, 9:30-11:30am, Egan MultiPurpose Room
Monday, November 4, 6:30-8:30pm, Blach MultiPurpose Room
As a participant in the remaining charrette, you will work in a small group to review previously considered ideas and help generate new ideas for the community to discuss and consider. You will have a chance to evaluate these ideas at subsequent workshops in November. Our process consultant, MIG, will then organize and summarize the results, which will be presented to the LASD Board in January.
For more information visit LASD’s Community Engagement webpage. Please email communityengagement@lasdschools.org with any questions.
Below is a link to an invitation in Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Mandarin for our upcoming multi-lingual Charrette on October 29 from 6-7:30-pm in the Santa Rita MPR.
International Families, You’re Invited! Join the Conversation about Our Schools
Please join your friends and neighbors to generate ideas for a long term solution to house Bullis Charter School. Translation will be available and discussions will be held in Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Japanese.
What is the long term solution for Bullis Charter School?
How can we best use the new school site in Mountain View for local students?
We value your opinion and want to hear what you think.
Childcare is available for children age 3 and up and pizza will be provided.
