Culture: Superstitions
What brings you good or bad luck?
We are going to talk about superstitions. In Spain we think that if you cross under a ladder you will have bad luck, or if you meet a black cat the same. But in England?
Good luck
There are lots of things that are lucky, for example one witch is the opposite than in Spain is to meet a black cat. It is lucky too touch wood to make something come true, or having a horseshoe over the door brings good luck but it needs to be the right way up.
On the first day of the month it is lucky to say "white rabbits, white rabbits white rabbits," before say the first word of the day.
And catch falling leaves in autumn or cut your hair when the moon is waxing and also putting money in the pocket of new clothes it is lucky.
Bad Luck
The same that in Spain, in England it is unlucky to walk under a leader, or to break a mirror. It means seven years of bad luck. It is unlucky to put new shoes on the table.
It is unlucky to spill salt too or open an umbrella in doors. Also the number thirteen and obviously Friday the thirteenth.
There are animals superstitions too
An old superstition says that if a child rides on a bear’s back, he will be protected from an illness.
In some parts of the UK they believe that if you meeting two or three Ravens together is really bad.
They think too if a Sparrow enters a house it means that one person who lived there will be died.
