Important Message from Mr. Zallis
In today’s digital age, it’s easy to turn to social media to ask questions or share frustrations, but we encourage our Prairie families to first reach out directly to us. Social media can unintentionally spread misinformation, create undue stress, and even damage relationships within our school community. By reaching out to us directly with your questions or concerns, we can provide accurate information, address any misunderstandings, and work together to find solutions that best support your child. We value our partnership with you and appreciate the chance to collaborate as we continue to make Prairie a welcoming and supportive place for every student.
Lunch & Play: Signup Now Open!
We are excited to be continuing our Lunch and Play program at Prairie. Lunch and Play is a time for a parent/guardian to join his or her student during lunch as well as to assist students during recess by providing additional supervision as well as potentially leading organized play with groups of students. The program will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The program will start the week of November 11th.
What are the expectations if I sign up for a Lunch and Play slot?
- Parent/Guardian will enjoy lunch with his/her student.
- Parent/Guardian will attend recess with his/her student’s grade level.
- Parent/Guardian will have the opportunity to lead a game or activity during his/her time at recess.
- Parent/Guardian will support Prairie staff in ensuring all expectations and safety procedures are followed.
How many times can we sign up for a Lunch and Play slot?
- We are limiting signup to one adult per family for one date. If you have students in multiple grades, you can sign up for one slot per child. Families who sign up for multiple days will have these dates forfeited.

YMCA's Safe 'n Sound Program
The YMCA's Safe 'n Sound program is designed to help youth learn important life skills, build character, make healthy choices, and be a part of improving our community for the better! We provide a balance of enrichment and health-focused activities that are sure to be fun for each and every child!
Currently the YMCA Safe ‘n Sound offers a Before School Program at Prairie Elementary this school year, which runs from 6:30am-8am. During Before Care we provide the children with engaging activities, creative crafts, character development, team building opportunities, active activities (CATCH games), and homework help if needed. The children will be signed out and dismissed to their classrooms by our staff every morning.
If you are interested in enrolling for the program, please reach out to the YMCA Safe ‘n Sound Office at 630.585.2207 or email sns@ymcachicago.org. There is a $125 Registration Fee to enroll in the program and a monthly fee based on the number of days. Five days a week is $177 per month and 3 days a week is $139.
