Hello Rogers Families & Friends,
Staff had a great two days learning and leading together. We are always learning and growing. Professional Development times help us enhance our skills/knowledge, improve student outcomes, foster a growth mindset, encourages collaboration and networking, and promotes our innovation and diverse student needs.
By learning and growing as a staff, we continually are reminded we are BETTER TOGETHER!

If you haven't tried out our NEW strategy we have recently learned, please give it a try! It's called "Stop- Think- Go!" This strategy helps us to pause before we act, say, or do. It helps us follow Habit #1: Be Proactive. Check out this RNN news broadcast as we shared how this strategy looks/sounds:

💥Meet [some of] our Staff 💥
I am Alice Maten, I am one of the 4th grade teacher here at Rogers. This is my second year here as a Rogers Raccoon! I have experience teaching in 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades. My journey to teaching started as a swim instructor and coach in Royal Oak. I followed through on this journey of teaching at Oakland University- Go Grizzlies! I love to watch my students learn and grow so much in 4th Grade. Rogers is truly the best place to be!
Hi! My name is Becky Simpson and I am a 4th grade teacher at Rogers. This is my second year at Rogers and I love being a part of this community! I have my Bachelor's degree in education from Wayne State and Master's degree in international education from Framingham State University. This is my 12th year teaching and I have previous teaching experience in Michigan, Guatemala, and China. I look forward to having another great year and getting to know the community better!
Hi! My name is Rikki Kwas and I am one of the fourth grade teachers here at Rogers! Prior to this year, you might have known me as part of the amazing 2nd grade team at Rogers. Over my almost 20 year career in Berkley, I have taught every elementary grade from virtual kindergarten to a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade multiage program. I also had the pleasure of being the district's literacy coach for a few years! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and supportive for every student. When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me hanging out with my amazing husband, two boys (Bennett is 10 and Parker is 4), and a goofy goldendoodle named Toby. Additionally, I am an avid runner, triathlete, and book nerd. I am looking forward to another wonderful year as a Rogers Raccoon!

🥰Caring & Sharing🥰
Caring & Sharing is a Berkley Area PTSA Council annual event that provides holiday gift cards to families in the Berkley School District and local Veterans. Historically, this event has been a partnership inside our schools through non-perishable food drives and PTAs purchased turkeys, extra food & fresh produce to distribute holiday baskets.
Since 2020, the PTSA Council has collected funds through online fundraising, hoping to raise as much money as possible to give families generous gift cards to purchase groceries to meet their needs.
In 2023, Caring & Sharing raised $20,420, fed 85 families, and gave over $1,000 to the American Legion. In addition to monetary donations through Memberhub, substantial donations were also received as part of the Berkley Cares Days at each school.
If you know of a family in need, or your family is in need this holiday season, please complete the Caring & Sharing 2024 Referral Form. All referral information will be used confidentially to provide families in need with a gift card this holiday season.
We are asking for your support as we come together to help our friends & neighbors this holiday season. Please make a donation today and spread the word within our Berkley School Community!
If you would like to make a monetary donation, please CLICK THE LINK TO DONATE TO CARING & SHARING 2024
