The Chameleon Connection: RISE
News for Families: Week 7: 9/23/24-9/27/24
Learning to read is serious work!!!
Excellent work, Dr. Daraban!!!
Our English Language Learners are fortunate to have Dr. Daraban and our ELL team as they learn another language as well as how to track print and read as in this edition of Biscuit Finds A Friend in grade one!
Remind your children, please!
We have two jobs at school: to learn and to be kind! We can learn hard things. It takes persistence, grit, and trying many times! So often, we seem to think failure is not helpful. Failure just means we need to try harder next time, because all of us can do hard things!!!!
Ms. Kenney's class is doing Shared Reading!
Students are learning to pair up and read while tracking the print in the book Biscuit Finds a Friend in grade one!

Dear GQES Families,
We are safe, daily at GQES.
We have children who are learning how to interact and be social along with students who are learning how to regulate their emotions and cope when things seem hard. As a parent, you can help us with this message of supporting your child. Here is a quick video of showing how we help students learn emotional regulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiEdDAnhqbg
We have a BIG night on 9/25/24 from 5:30-7:00pm! Make sure to tell your classroom teacher if you are coming and how many are coming from your family. Literacy Night Details: 9/25/24 Thank you!

On the September Attendance Challenge, GQES has come in second every single week. It's time for us to claim that prize! Please know we need each child at school, on time, and ready to learn daily!
More updates:
- Let's get to UPLIFTING! See: https://youuplift.com/garland-r-quarles-elementary-kindness-wall/.
- Please know your child needs to have their name labeled on their belongings including coats, jackets, hoods, backpacks, etc. This way, if it's left behind, we know who the owner is.
- It's imperative to send your child to school every day, on time, and ready to learn. Here is some information on why attending school is so important: Attendance Matters!
If you have any questions or concerns, please each out to us at 540-662-3575. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child thrive!
Sincerely,
Joanie Hovatter
