We are excited to kick off the 2nd Quarter of Kindergarten!
In Language Arts we are learning to...
- use complete sentences to describe experiences
- participate in discussions: asking and answering questions
- retell stories and events using props or pictures
- recognize the features of a sentence including capitalization and punctuation
- identify letters (both uppercase and lowercase)
- identify letter sounds
- understand the purpose of text features like headings and pictures
- identify the main topic of a text
- compare characters and events from different stories
- print uppercase and lowercase letters
- spell simple, single-syllable, words with short vowels
- create descriptive, detailed narrative writing
- plan our writing through drawing and dictation
- write simple sentences with a clear subject and predicate
In Math we are learning to...
- determine how many are in a given set of 20 or less objects
- represent forward counting to 20
- recognize and explain that the number of objects remains the same regardless of arrangement or order
- count orally by ones to 50
- count backwards orally by ones when given a starting number between 1 and 10
- state the number after, without counting, when given a number between 0 and 20
- state the number before, without counting, when given a number between 1 and 10
- compose and decompose numbers 11-19 into a set of ten and some ones
- read, write and identify the numerals 0-20
- construct a set of objects that corresponds to a given numeral through 20
- determine and write the numeral that corresponds to the total number of objects in a set 0-20
- (given a set or numeral) construct another set that has more, fewer, or the same amount 0-20
- compare two sets containing 0-20 objects using the terms more, fewer or the same as
- compare numbers up to 20 using the terms greater than, less than or the same as
- model and solve single-step contextual problems using addition and subtraction with whole numbers within 5
- identify, describe, name, compare and construct plane figures (circles, triangles, squares, rectangles)
- identify, describe, extend and create simple repeating patterns
Reminders
- Doors open at 7:20 each day and begins promptly at 7:50. Dismissal is at 2:30.
- Please send your child's folder to school every day; check their folder every evening- this is a primary communication source.
- Please send your child to school with a spill-proof water bottle every day.
- Please read to your child for 20 minutes every day.
