Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year
Virginia Elementary School
Introduction
It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Mekelle Neathery, as the new Principal at Virginia Elementary School. My passion for education and supporting the success of all learners has been developed over the past 18 years of my career as an elementary teacher, prek-12 principal, RtI specialist, high school assistant principal and most recently as a director of student services and special education. In each of these roles, I have sought to ensure the development and implementation of a successful learning environment that supports each learner, students and adults alike. This will continue to be my focus this year as I join the community of learners at Virginia Elementary School.
A Few Things About Me....
Working Together
From a very young age, my family emphasized the need to be a part of helping others and to continue to assist with making things better for future generations. A statement that I would often hear from my parents was, "We do better for you, so you can do better for your children." This is a foundational part of who I am and something that I carry with me in my career. I will continue to focus on ways that we can work together to ensure that our students' needs are met and that each of you are supported as we put ideas into place.
Meet My Family
My husband, Dustin, and I are the proud parents of two boys, Aiden (13) and Avery (8). My husband and I are actively involved with all of their various activities which include baseball, basketball, track, and 4-H. We reside outside of Arenzville where I grew up as a child.
What We Measure Moves
I am a firm believer in identifying what we as a team determine as our big goals for this year. Too often, teams are unclear about the goals causing members to not be on the same page. More to come on this as we begin our work this year. Enjoy the video from Stephen Covey that I believe we can all relate to at some point in our careers or personal lives.
Looking Forward to Meeting With YOU!
I am excited to meet and learn from each of you as we begin our work together. I have included a form that I am asking each of you to complete to facilitate planning for the future. Your input is valued and greatly appreciated as we determine our direction this year. I would also like to invite you to visit with me prior to the school year beginning. Please forward dates and times via email at mneathery@virginia64.com so we can arrange for a time for us to meet.
