Happy Valentines Day everyone!!
At Northridge we love reading and learning!!! We take this very seriously!!
At Northridge Elementary, we dedicate time to reading great books, and we will continue to prioritize this because daily reading—both at school and at home—is crucial for student growth in reading, writing, and beyond. Reading at home is especially vital to a child's development, as it strengthens literacy skills and fosters a lifelong love of learning. When children read at home, children build a solid foundation for academic success, improve their vocabulary, and enhance their critical thinking skills. Beyond academics, reading together with family creates valuable bonding time with caregivers, promoting emotional growth and social development. In today's fast-paced world, where digital distractions are ever-present, carving out time for reading at home ensures that children are equipped with the tools they need to thrive in school and in life. We encourage reading at home BIG TIME!
Here are the 8 Benefits of Reading with/to Children at Home:
- Encourages an interest in reading
- Develops phonemic awareness and phonics skills
- Expands their vocabulary
- Improves attention span and concentration skills....brain growth
- Increases imagination and creative thinking
- Nurtures the bond between parent and child
- Supports the habit of regular reading....a life skill
- Fosters a lifelong love of books
We hope all children enjoy reading at home! Whether it’s reading aloud to you or spending at least 20 minutes on their own, every child will have a good book to enjoy. Happy Reading!
Next week, we will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week, which runs from February 18th-21st. This week is a wonderful reminder for all of us to practice compassion, spread positivity, and reflect on how small acts of kindness can make a big impact in our communities. It’s especially meaningful as we celebrate Black History Month and Valentine’s Day during this time. Kindness and love are central to the themes of both, reminding us of the importance of supporting and uplifting one another. We will better our world!!
Throughout Black History Month, we learn about many incredible Black heroes who have not only made significant contributions to society but have also shown extraordinary kindness, leadership, and resilience. These role models exemplify how powerful kindness can be in creating change and building stronger, more inclusive communities. Whether through their work in civil rights, education, or social justice, these individuals teach us the value of treating others with respect, compassion, and empathy. As we reflect on kindness, let’s remember that it’s something we can practice every day—not just next week. Let's spread love, gratitude, and positivity in everything we do!
This month Northridge Elementary will also be gearing up for the completion of the second semester, which brings both the excitement of progress and the anticipation of new challenges.
Around Presidents' Day, February 17th, is also a time for us to remember the importance of strong leadership and the ongoing role that these leaders play in shaping the country’s values and future.
We are starting to gear up for next year 2025-2026....... we are preparing for new Pre-School registrations, Kindergarten student intent and such. Please spread this information to neighbors and friends. Social media will also be alerted. Pre-school information is below. Here is a Kindergarten INTENT to complete FOR providing us with a glimpse,heads-up of who will be coming for Kindergarten and to give us information to connect with new prospective students. Important reminder: STAY WELL !! There have been increasing cases of flu diagnosed in the school. According to the CDC, influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue (tiredness)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea
**** It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever
