2024-2025 Lottery Pig Project
1. Youth must be currently enrolled in 4-H in Lincoln County and compete at the County Fair. There will be a boarding option for the lottery pig for 4-H youth that do not have the facilities to house the pig (e.g., lives in town). Please contact the Extension Office if you are interested in this as space is limited and available on a first come/first serve basis. Youth participating in the boarding will still be responsible for the care each day and the expenses of the animal. Exhibitors must register by March 14th,2025, for the lottery pig project.
2. Pigs will be placed in a separate Gilt and Barrow class of lottery only, not market.
3. There will be a Champion and Reserve Champion Gilt and Champion and Reserve Champion Barrow. There will be a live show of the Champion and Reserve Champion. There will be an Overall Champion and Overall Reserve Champion (this is the exhibitor with the most points from all categories)
4. The Pig Lottery Live Show Champion and Reserve Champion will compete in the Market Swine 4-H show. Exhibitors will be limited to (3) market hogs which may include (1) lottery pig.
5. Total cost will vary depending on the market price of pigs (usually between $250 and $300). The amount may be different, so plan accordingly.
6. The lottery pig program was developed to help youth find pigs to show for fair and learn about caring for a market hog. Exhibitors will pay a non-refundable $75.00 deposit, along with the name of the youth participating when registering for the Lottery Pig Project. This deposit will go towards the final cost of the pig.
7. The rest of the cost of the pigs will be due at the first meeting and weigh-in on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in the beef barn, and this is when the pig selection will take place. The pigs will be officially owned and taken home by the exhibitor at this time. Exhibitors will be required to attend 2 of the 3 educational meetings which will be held at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Centennial Hall.
