An Update from the Superintendent's Office - October 2024
OC Football Program
There has been some concern about the future of Oakland-Craig's football program and I wanted to take a minute to shed light on some of the concerns we've heard. It is no secret that our number of participants has decreased, causing fewer JV football games. It is never ideal when we aren't able to play those JV games as we want kids to have an opportunity to play. We will continue to work toward playing those JV games when possible but at times, injuries, eligibility, illness, etc. get in the way.
I also want to note that we are aware of the concern for our future football teams, beginning in 2025-2026 due to a decrease in student enrollment and participants. We are researching options that could best suit our needs and enrollment for next year; however, we do not have any answers at this time. We will update you as we learn more.
PTO Tailgate - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are in need of help at the PTO Tailgate. These events don't happen without great volunteers so please sign up to help us out. We need people to help with the below areas.
- Check-In Table Host
- Dunk Tank Host
- Spirit Table Host
- Poster Making Table Host
To sign up, notify Jess Bland at jessbland@ocknights.org or sign up on Sign-Up Genius.
Concession Help - Youth and Jr./Sr. High Activity Parents
If your child participates in a youth or Jr./Sr. High activity, we need your help to cover concessions at some of our home events, including this Friday's Homecoming game. Funds from concessions go directly back to those that participate in both youth and Jr./Sr. High activities. This allows us to offer activities without charging a large activity fee. We really need your help though so please sign up now to volunteer!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
This month we have Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for October 21 and 24. Elementary conferences are held from 4-7 p.m. and Jr./Sr. High conferences are scheduled from 5:30-8:30 p.m. All conferences will be held in the elementary building. Attending Parent-Teacher Conferences is a great way to learn the strengths and areas of growth for your children. In addition, this is a great opportunity for you to ask questions and share any concerns you may have about your child's education. Of course, you do not have to wait until conferences to have your questions or concerns addressed as we are more than happy to talk with you as things arise throughout the year.
The Elkhorn Logan Valley Health Department will also be in attendance at Parent-Teacher Conferences. You can bring your family to get flu shots while you are here for conferences if you'd like! ๐๐๐

Contacting Staff Members
From time to time, parents may need to get into contact with a staff member to discuss specific needs, concerns, celebrations, etc. for their child. Below is a link to the staff member website. Simply click "Send a Message" next to the staff member you'd like to get in contact with.
Prior to reaching out to your child's teacher, an administrator, etc., we ask that you take the below items into consideration.
1. If the situation is not an emergency, please reach out during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday). Staff are happy to help but have been directed not to respond if it is outside business hours and is not an emergency. This is something I too will be implementing. If it is an emergency though, please do not ever hesitate to reach out, regardless of the time of day.
2. If it isn't an emergency, please do not utilize our personal phones. Emergencies in which there needs to be immediate action taken, definitely call our cell phones. If not, please contact the school via phone or email the staff member.
3. Consider if this is something your child should discuss with the teacher before you reach out. We love to see kids advocating for themselves before parents step in, especially when students get into Jr./Sr. High.
None of these requests are meant to be harsh; however, we are simply asking to have our time with our families respected when situations don't warrant an emergency.

OC will host the District Cross Country meet on Thursday, October 17. We'd love to see everyone on the golf course to cheer on and support our cross country runners.
