Closing Out The School Year
The end of the school year is quickly approaching with only eight more school days to go. We have had a wonderful year with increased parental engagement that we want to continue next year. There’s information included that might be helpful as you prepare for the summer with your student as well as preparing for the 2024-2025 school year.
Summer School
This year, the district summer school is not open to all grade levels like it has been in the past. Only students in grades 3-5, who did not meet the promotion criteria, are being invited to attend this summer. If your student was invited to summer school, you have been notified by the student’s classroom teacher. The deadline for registering for transportation ended today, Friday, May 10th. The AP overseeing our summer program is Ms. Lee. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact her.
Rising K Academy
Graves will be hosting this summer academy for our upcoming students. If a student has registered and opted in to attend the summer program, transportation can be provided if the request was made by Friday, May 10th. This is the district’s deadline for preparing summer routes.
Summer Registration
Registration appointments can be scheduled to get new students registered. Please help us spread the word around our school community. The summer hours are listed in the school hours section of the newsletter.
Summer Learning
The district link will be shared with you, via ParentSquare once it is released to the local schools. Once this is received, learning can continue for our students throughout the summer.
Lost Media Center Books
If your child has a missing book, please have them look for it at home and return it to the school prior to the last day of school. There is a cost incurred if a book or books are not returned. The estimated cost is $15 for each lost book.
Lost Chromebooks and/or Chargers
These items will be checked in next week by our Tech Team. Missing student items will be assessed a fee if there are missing items. The cost will be communicated to you depending on what’s lost.
Student Withdrawals
If you know that your student will not be returning in August, you can stop by the office and complete the form to withdraw your student. There will be a short turnaround to process the request due to summer staffing, but you will be able to receive the paperwork which can be used to register your student at his or her new school.
Summer Hours
The front office will be staffed from 8:00-2:30 daily during the month of June. Feel free to reach out to the school should you have any questions at (770) 326-8000. The hours will vary during the month of July on Fridays.

Student Attendance
Hello Mustang Families! As we close out the year, I want to make note of how crucial and important school attendance is for our community. One of the biggest factors of academic achievement and success is coming to school every single day. Coming to school builds agency and responsibility for our students that can be applied in their future. School attendance is linked to positive social and emotional aptitude as children learn to navigate social situations and build resilience. Just being present in the classroom builds school culture where students can form a positive learning relationship with their teachers, further building upon a sense of belonging. When students come to school, students absorb information and build new interests for their future endeavors and career.
School attendance in our community is a priority for the success of our students and our community. Simply being in the school building and being present positively impacts our future generation and moves us in a better direction. We at Graves Elementary School are committed to be accountable and do our best so students come to school every day, but we need your help as well to enrich the quality of life for our students. Let us finish this school year strong and I hope to see you all next year. Have a restful and relaxing summer break Mustang Families! – Mr. Mazumder

Local School Council
Nominations will be accepted to add new parents to the council during Open House in July with voting to accept the nominations taking place in August. There are four meetings held throughout the school year and this year, the meetings were very informative. The council visited classrooms, participated in professional learning, heard from various staff members, and asked and answered questions. This is a positive way to share accurate information about the happenings taking place here at Graves.

Reporting a Concern Reminder
There is a document in the Front Office which allows you to report an incident involving your child. This document will be given to the appropriate administrator who will follow up with you.
We will do our best to meet with parents without an appointment, however sometimes there are already scheduled meetings that cannot be missed.
Another option is to contact the Front Office and have an administrator return the call and schedule an appointment with you.
Reporting Bus Incidences Reminder
The best practice is to speak with the bus driver of your child’s bus route first. Transportation can also be contacted directly, and the supervisor will be able to speak with bus driver to help resolve the issue.
We will gladly work with you if there is a situation, but the process will handled quicker if the first two steps are followed first. The Front Office is able to provide you with the phone number to Transportation.
