Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 4, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Show off your Clarksburg spirit at the second annual Clarksburg Cluster Night on Thursday, October 10! This is a fun event for all our Cluster Families. Cluster schools will march in the parade as a group with students and principals holding a school banner and leading the way. Each student will get one pom-pom and a spirit bracelet (while supplies last) to use during the parade. Please feel free to bring your own poms poms, too. Students should wear their school spiritwear or school colors! This also will help with check-ins and the parade line-up. Please see the flyer linked here and sign-up at https://bit.ly/ClarksburgClusterNight2024 for more information. For questions, please contact Cluster Night Co-Chairs, Eric Hale, CHS PTSA President at ehaleptsa@gmail.com or Arti Varanasi, Clarksburg Cluster Coordinator at artivpta@gmail.com.
MCPS is seeking input about the 2025–2026 school year calendar! Please take a moment to complete the MCPS School Calendar Feedback Survey. You may also access the survey using a QR code by clicking the link below. Your input will be used to select the first and last day of school, as well as other important dates for the coming school year.

In the classroom, we use a variety of online digital tools to reinforce the district’s instructional program. Although these tools have been evaluated to be safe for student use and are consistent with federal laws of student data privacy, MCPS requests your consent to allow your student(s) to use these tools as they may collect personally identifiable student information. The information is typically collected by online digital tools to enable use of the tool to track student progress. Please visit the MCPS Data Privacy and Security Tech Resources page for a very extensive list of online resources that have been either approved, prohibited, or require parent permission. This form pertains to those sites that require parent permission for students to access them. If you choose not to provide consent to use the supplemental tools that require affirmative parental consent, alternative instructional activities will be provided. Please submit one form for each student attending Cedar Grove ES. You will have the option, after submitting the form, to complete another survey for another child.
Have a wonderful weekend!

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
We have a lot going on in October, and we need your help! In addition to the usual updated information about lessons and new books, the October Media Monthly gives you important details about our Pink-Out Wednesdays and our pumpkin book character decorating event. Both of these events have hard deadlines because of the nature of the event. I received over 50 pink-out pictures for our first pink-out last Wednesday, and they are GORGEOUS! If you can put siblings together, as so many of you have, that's even better! The deadline for all of our pink-out pictures is Thursday, October 31 so I can start compiling the video. The drop off time for our Great Pumpkin event is after school on Thursday October 24. This will allow me to set up the media center with all of our beautiful pumpkins for the class walk-about on Friday. If you cannot bring the pumpkins in on Thursday afternoon, you may bring them in before school Friday morning. Please keep in mind that last year we inadvertently had a few pumpkins that had been prepared too far in advance, and they started to decay a bit. I've added some tips to the Pumpkin Event document that suggest how to treat a pumpkin so that it lasts longer! I have also added a "Digital Literacy for our Families column" to my Media Monthly, so look for ideas to support safe digital experiences with your family. Have a great weekend!
