Dear NSSEO Family,
It is hard to believe that our 23-24 school year is already in the rearview mirror -and what an exciting year it was! We are so excited to see what 24-25 brings for our amazing students and staff! Thank you to all of the families for all of your unending support that made the successes of this school year possible. Every one of us, putting in 100% everyday is what makes NSSEO such a special place!
Extended School Year
Though many associate summertime as a quiet time for schools-here at NSSEO we are VERY busy with lots of fun activities for students during our Extended School Year (ESY), as well as planning for a very exciting 2024-2025 school year. Our ESY program runs through June 28th and provides students with an additional three full weeks (full days) of school, helping maintain the skills they have gained during the previous school year. We also provide lots of fun activities as well-it is summer after all! The ESY program helps to reduce the 'summer slide' students may experience over the extended break of summer vacation, and helps them start strong when school resumes in August.
We are HIRING!
Speaking of August, we are busy hiring the very best staff members to meet the needs of our students and spend a significant amount of time over the summer in interviews for new staff, and planning back to school training for our new and returning staff members. Strategic Planning
Additionally, this summer, we are beginning work on an NSSEO Strategic Plan, which will guide our work for the next five years. Our Strategic Plan will gather feedback from all of our stakeholders including parents of our students, our staff, our member district administrators and board members, local business who hire our students, as well as NSSEO administration, to determine needs of our students and how to best provide for those needs. The plan will provide us with direction for approximately the next five years at NSSEO. We are collaborating with a team of consultants from Hazzard, Young, & Attea, who have expertise in both special education as well as strategic planning for special education cooperatives. Please watch for communication via this newsletter and direct email for ways in which you can volunteer to participate in this exciting initiative. We want to make sure all voices are heard.
Fun Online Reading Activity For Students
One of the most challenging things for parents over the summer is to keep students exposed to the power of reading. At NSSEO, we are so fortunate to have our own "Nurse Wendy Rabin" who is offering a unique, online reading opportunity which students can access from home on June 27th, from 6-6:30. Nurse Wendy will read and interact with students online at this link https://nsseo.zoom.us/j/5363203459. Any student attending an NSSEO program is welcome to join. We are sincerely grateful to Nurse Wendy for taking time out of her weekend to provide students with this important connection of home and school.
