October 2024
A Note from Leadership
WE ARE OSSEO - Innovative, Courageous, Focused, Reflective & Conscientious!
We are still basking in the amazing community energy we experienced at our Centennial Celebration during Homecoming! OSH alumni from every decade since the 40's (shoutout Class of 1949!) joined current scholars, staff and community members in celebrating 100 Years of Osseo Excellence. We spent the afternoon reflecting on our history and making new OSH traditions. Scholars let many, many tours through the building - a highlight was the Media Center where staff member Liz Samuelson featured archived yearbooks, newspapers and photos pertaining to Osseo history. Our celebration culminated with our current cheerleaders leading alumni onto the football field by decade for special recognition before the big game!
Special thanks to each of the scholars and staff who helped make the event an afternoon to remember! Here's to another 100 years, Osseo!

Osseo Senior High Highlights
Learning Sweeps
Learning takes center stage every day at OSH! Please remind your scholars that each minute of class matters - conscientious Orioles are through the classroom door when the bell rings! You never know when there will be a learning sweep! Our SROs Missy & Tony spontaneously reward on-time classrooms with treats and high fives!
Safety Day
Safety and security is a priority of Osseo Area Schools and we take our annual Safety Day very seriously at OSH! Emergency preparedness plans (ERP) including compliance with state mandated drills are completed by each school, each year. Assistant Principal Mrs. Berling, focused on safety as she led scholars and staff through Safety Day fire evacuation, lockdown, shelter in place and severe weather drills on Friday, September 20th.
Our drills went very well and our staff got involved with their usual spirit and commitment - donning (orange, naturally) safety gear while positively reinforcing messages and procedures throughout the day. Safety first Orioles!

OSH's Megan Thompson attends Constitution Day celebration in Philadelphia
Osseo Area Schools recognizes Constitution Day each year on Sept. 17 to celebrate the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and those who have become citizens. Megan Thompson, a social studies teacher at Osseo Senior High School, was invited to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia as one of 35 social studies teachers from across the country to meet with CEO Jeffrey Rosen and Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch for Constitution Day.
The event included a discussion on civic education and Declaration 250, which will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Thompson had the opportunity to attend a Preamble reading on the front lawn led by a Ben Franklin actor. She then attended a naturalization ceremony where 48 individuals from 27 countries became citizens.
“It was especially emotional because one of the new citizens gave a speech sharing what the day meant to him, and he immigrated to the United States from Ghana, where so many of my OSH students’ families are from!” Thomson said.
The highlight of the day for Thompson was a lunch with Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who conversed with the teachers on how to best prepare for Declaration 250. Justice Gorsuch also joined them for an evening reception before Thompson was given a front-row seat at his larger presentation on his new book, Over Ruled: The Human Toll of Too Much Law, which tells stories of individuals who have been unjustly caught up in the legal system.
“In the end, it was a day spent recognizing America’s past, present, and future, and the important role that educators play in helping students engage in civil dialogue and civic engagement,” Thompson said.
Congrats Thompson, on your recognition and courageous representation of OSH Excellence!

VIRTUAL SESSION: 4 STRATEGIES FOR A SMARTER COLLEGE SEARCH
The college search continues to become more complex, making it harder for families to identify right-fit schools. Challenges include admission trends and how colleges admit students, testing (some require it now and some don’t), the number of schools on the “more selective” list continues to grow and substantial changes to the FAFSA and financial aid may make college more expensive. Join us on Thursday, October 24 at 7:30pm to learn how these changes may impact your family. Brought to you by Osseo Senior High School through a partnership with College Inside Track.
