Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know For the Coming Week
November 24, 2024
A Note From Principal Hauser
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Easley Bus Information
I want to share an important update regarding transportation services for our students. For the next three weeks beginning Monday, Dec. 2 through Friday, Dec. 20, Durham Public Schools will implement rotational bus service due to the ongoing shortage of bus drivers across the district.
Families will be responsible for transporting their students to and from school one day each week, with bus service provided four days per week. This approach will help in managing the shortage efficiently, ensuring that our current drivers can cover more routes equitably.
This is a temporary measure as DPS is actively working to resolve transportation issues.
And while we know this will present a hardship for some families who have benefitted from daily bus service thus far this school year, we ask for your patience and for the understanding that this is a more equitable solution for all. This will provide four days of service for everyone, including those families who have had inconsistent service up to this point.
For our school, families whose students ride these buses will be responsible for transporting your children to and from school on the indicated days:
Bus 30 - will not run on THURSDAYS (Dec. 5, 12, 19)
Bus 201 - will not run on FRIDAYS (Dec. 6, 13, 20)
Bus 626 - will not run TUESDAYS (Dec. 3, 10, 17)
Bus 635 - will not run on TUESDAYS (Dec. 3, 10, 17)
Bus 193 - is an EC bus and will run daily
Bus 1919 - is an EC bus and will run daily
*We were able to coordinate with the other bus drivers to provide transportation to Aldersgate on the days those buses don't run.
Please visit DPSNC.net for the complete rotational bus service schedule.
DPS will excuse tardiness for students on late buses and absences for students who miss school due to canceled bus routes. We will continue to investigate the possibility of retroactively excusing absences due to canceled bus routes.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. If you there is no way to get your child to school on the day the bus is not running, please contact your child's classroom teacher. We will do our best to help arrange transportation.
While this new plan is worse for our school, it is more equitable across the district as I know there have been other schools with students and staff stuck at school until 5:30 p.m. multiple days a week. Hopefully this will drastically minimize the last minute notice of bus changes. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.
Early Release Day
Tuesday, November 26th, is an Early Release Day and there is no school Wednesday- Friday for the Thanksgiving break.
Easley Holiday Giving Tree
As the holiday season approaches, we often take time to reflect on our blessings. However, not all families find themselves in favorable circumstances and children and families within our school community are in need. The PTA is continuing the Easley tradition of the "Holiday Giving Tree" to help these students and families this holiday season. You can sign-up HERE to participate in the Easley Giving Tree. You may purchase the items and return them to the school office. Please do not wrap your donations. Items may also be ordered and sent directly to the school.
