FALL FUN
It's hard to believe that this Friday is the END of the first nine weeks of school. in some ways, it seems like we've been together forever, and in other ways, it feels like we just started!
Our Hisle leadership team spent some time talking about fall events, enrichment for students, and more! Read on to learn about our plans for October, November, and December. One aspect we have considered is "what is the learning standard?" For example, in our kindergarten standards, the vocabulary term "traditions" is a large component of learning in December. Traditions can be as simple as a birthday breakfast or Sunday evening family dinner!
OCTOBER
- Conferences will take place on October 14th. Classroom teachers should have sent a sign-up sheet for this day or later in the week. This is an opportunity to partner witht he teacher and your child to talk about strengths, areas of growth, and setting a goal for learning for the year! Conferences will take place in person to give families an opportunity to see inside the classroom!
- HALLOWEEN: October brings Halloween to the campus, and we will NOT be dressing up on this holiday. Most campuses do a "Storybook or Fairytale" Parade, and we will be doing this when we are learning this in class for our kindergarten and first grade classrooms.
NOVEMBER:
- We will be celebrating various cultures with our 4th grade students on November 1st including Diwali and Dia de Los Muertes in an assembly. Families of 4th grade students are able to attend to celebrate their child as they perform on stage!
- Election Day is November 5th, and voting/citzenship IS a learning standard in each grade level. Each grade level will be participating in an opportunity to "VOTE" for various classroom rewards for our positive incentive program that includes "Donnie's Dollars". Students are able to earn dollars to trade in for certain activities in each classroom.
- Veteran's Day will be introduced by our 3rd grade students on November 11th. We will come together and celebrate members of our community that served the United States.
- Thanksgiving Tailgate: We wish to combine to fun traditions of tailgating and Thanksgiving on November 14th. Families may bring chairs and blankets to join their children in a "Thanksgiving" picnic. Families may opt to bring food OR children may buy "turkey/dressing" from the cafeteria. Lunch times will remain the same!
DECEMBER
- Hisle students in grades 3rd-5th will participate in a "Classwide" Spelling Bee on Wednesday, December 18th. Each class will have two participants that will represent their homeroom at our schoolwide bee on January 10th at 7:45am.
- Winter Holiday parties will be on Friday, December 20th. Families are more than welcome to join their child to celebrate. Classroom teachers are identifying the craft and food fun for families to help provide! It's always lots of fun to watch children do
SPRING
- Each grade level has planned a field trip sometime in Janaury-March! Field trips are an opportunity for students to see the learning that happens inside the classroom in real life settings.
We hope- this gives you a little bit of information about the next few months! We will be communicating the when we will host our "Fairytale" parade in December along with information about our first book fair and more fun! Remember, Hisle Hounds howl loud and proud!

Counselor's Corner
Child Protection Learning!
As you know, teachers in Leander ISD utilize the Second Step curriculum to teach children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
To meet the required State of Texas Health TEKS for the instruction to prevent child abuse, Leander ISD counselors will utilize lessons from the Second Step Child Protection Curriculum. These lessons will teach students three types of skills: Personal Safety, Touching Safety, and Assertiveness. In order for students to participate in these lessons, parents must complete the grade-level Opt-In/Opt-out form for each student here at Hisle. You can find this form below for each grade level:
