CONGRATULATIONS TO CEPS SECONDARY EDUCATION GRADUATE - MRS. NIA STIVERS!
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT - MS. LILY GRACE VERNON
Secondary Education student wins the title - MISS JSU 2023
With my mother being a first generation college graduate from Jacksonville State University, it has always been my hope to obtain a degree here also. It has been an honor for me to follow in her footsteps at JSU and enter into the best educational program in our state! I have always felt that JSU has the perfect blend of being a big campus with much to offer while keeping a small town feel! I can still say hello to professors I had when I was a freshman, and they remember me. Students are able to form lasting relationships with faculty here, and that is one of the reasons I love it so much.
I have known since I was fourteen years old that I want to become a teacher. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in a local school system for the past few years while going to college, and this experience has confirmed I am on the right path to fulfilling my dreams. My platform for Miss JSU is an initiative called Special Talented and Remarkable Students (STARS) in which I want to foster more opportunities for special needs students in the arts. Making everyone feel included has always been a driving force for me and through my platform, I will be able to share my passion while bringing awareness for more inclusion in the arts. I plan to be an educator who spotlights my students differences and highlights how this makes them special. Being an impactful educator has always been my dream, and I am so glad I chose JSU for my journey!
