Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
The term is already flying by. We kicked the term off with the Education Review Office (ERO) onsite, to review our policies, procedures, practices and student outcomes. It was a very positive review process and we look forward to seeing the draft report in a few weeks.
Last week we shared the asTTle results (from the end of Term 2) with our Board of Trustees. Students in years 4-6 were assessed (online) in Reading and Mathematics. We were pleased with our results, our students performed well against the national norms with the Year 5 cohort median score above national norms. Our Māori student data also demonstrated accelerated progress with Years 4 and 5 median scores well above the national norms.
Life Education has been a highlight these last two weeks, our students have been learning about body systems (digestive and respiratory, in particular) to complement the Understanding Me unit. Thank you to Baker Tilly Staples Rodway for their very generous sponsorship of Life Education at TPS.
--------------------------------------
As part of the Understanding Me unit, girls in the senior school have been give a 'period pack' of basic period products. The government supplies period products free to children in all NZ schools. At TPS there is an ongoing free supply available in the senior hubs and from the school office.
----------------------------------------
After a year of planning, we are finally underway with the hall refurbishment. This term the hall will have a small extension added that will include two toilets and a small kitchenette. The interior of the hall will also have a refresh with the floors sanded, a new ceiling, paint and autex added to the walls. The back cupboards will also be removed to allow greater capacity in the hall.
Currently, we are in the process of trying to secure funding to add fold up seating on the back wall which will further add to our capacity.
------------------------------------------------
A very warm welcome to students who have recently started at TPS: Shanice Nyandoro, Clara Buriti Tokam and Kavinsa Weerakkody Mohottige. It is great to have you and your whānau joining our TPS team.
Hei kōnei rā

Welcome to new TPS staff:
Kia ora, ko Fiona Cornwell tōku ingoa.
I am teaching the delightful Room 11 children on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
I have been teaching for many years and have taught in Auckland, Tauranga, and Coromandel Town. Over the years I have taught every age group from Year 0 to Year 8.
I have three adult children and one needy dog. In my free time I enjoy reading, walking (usually with the dog in tow), eating out, church, and family time. I’m married to an artist so I also spend quite a bit of time visiting art galleries around the country and half watching documentaries on various artists – not sure if I can call that a hobby? I know I’m getting older because I have recently become interested in identifying birds I see around the area and building my family tree. Both things I am really enjoying!
Kia Ora, I am Catherine Day, (known to students as Whaea Cat) and I am teaching in Room 11 with Fiona Cornwell for Term 3 and Term 4. Previously I have taught New Entrants and Year Ones in Australia. I have been part of the TPS school community for several years as both a parent and a regular reliever in the Junior School. I love going to the beach and spending time with my family. I look forward to spending the next two terms in Rm11.
Kia ora whānau.
For those parents/caregivers who don't know me, my name is Sue Belsham and I am the new teacher in M4.
I am the mother of two grown up children. I have two grandchildren and my son is expecting his first child in late December. I am originally from Auckland, but my partner and I made the move to Papamoa 18 months ago. Previous to that, (9 years ago) I had bought my place in Papamoa. I'm so happy to be back here in Papamoa and I appreciate having the beach so close. Family are the most important thing to me and I cherish my time with them. I'm fortunate enough to have a camper van and love camping and enjoy exploring our beautiful beaches. I have been teaching for approximately 25 years. I held a permanent position at Waimauku School for five years before moving down here. Since moving down I have had relieving positions. I am so excited about this new position and am looking forward to getting to know the students and the staff at TPS.
