Hello Mahaffey Families!

As we move into November we are seeing an increase in student tardies across the campus (upwards of 10-20 daily). We are asking for your help to decrease the number of daily tardies.

Here are some suggestions to ensure your child arrives at school on time before the tardy bell rings at 8:10am.

• 1) Pack backpacks/lunchboxes the night before. The last thing you want to be doing as you are rushing out the door is trying to find lost homework. Make sure everyone’s backpacks are ready to go and prepare home lunches as much as you can.
• 2) Lay clothes out the night before.
• 3) Set up a “last stop” area. Pick any available area near the door you typically leave through and put everything there for the day: backpacks, phones, homework, and especially coats and shoes.
• 4) Play a family favorite music list. Music can get people moving and can even turn a mood around. Pick upbeat songs that everyone enjoys. Play the same set each day so that everyone starts to recognize the cues and where they should be. For example, when the second song ends, breakfast is over. The third song ending means teeth should be brushed, and when the last song starts, they should be heading to get their coats and backpacks on.
• 5) If all else fails, wake up earlier and/or leave the house earlier. Not always the most enjoyable solution but oftentimes, this will do the trick. Allowing yourself 5-10 extra minutes in the morning may also make for a calmer start to your day.

Our goal from Mahaffey is to have 96.5% or higher for our daily attendance. Last year our average was 95%.

23-24 School Year: 95%

24-25 School Year Goal: 96.5%

End of October: 96.03% (September was 96.29%)

Mahaffey is pleased to offer Stuart’s holiday stocking for a 3rd year through our school store. We will take orders from Nov 11th through Dec 13th end of the day. We will offer a goodie cup with new items not sold yet in the School store (scented pencils, erasers, and more). Stocking price points will start at $11. You may add more to the stocking by selecting an additional amount.

ITEM will be delivered by Dec 19th.

Visitors are required to present a valid ID before entering our schools and district facilities. You will see this sign on all our front doors.

Please make sure to have you license ready to show the camera when you ring the door bell.

Once admitted in, you will let the door close behind you not holding the door open for anyone behind you.

In Klein ISD we use the Standard Response Protocol in case of emergencies. We review these items with the students throughout the school year.

DOORS

• All exterior doors require a keycard to enter
• Our resource officer along with administration conduct door checks throughout the door
• Our students are taught to NEVER open the door (this includes for fellow students or staff members).
