Meet the Candidates Ice Cream Social
Meet the Candidates Ice Cream Social
Monday, September 23
Hillsdale Food Park
5:30-7:00 PM
The Hillsdale News and SW Trails PDX are pleased to host an opportunity for voters to meet candidates for the three District 4 city council seats on the Fall ballot.
This free event will be held at the Hillsdale Food Park on Monday, September 23, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The Food Park is located in Hillsdale at 6238 SW Capitol Hwy, near the north entrance to Ida B. Wells High School at the corner of SW Sunset Blvd and SW Capitol Highway. The food carts will be open until 7:30 PM. The format is an informal meet-and-greet with ice cream treats provided courtesy of Basics Market.
With more than 20 candidates on the ballot for the three Portland District 4 city council seats and two new ranked choice voting methods used, voters face a steep learning curve. In an effort to help voters connect to candidates, Valeurie Friedman (Hillsdale News) and Don Baack (founder of SWTrails PDX) have invited District 4 candidates to come meet area residents where we live and tell us about themselves and their plans for City Council.
This is also an opportunity for voters in Hillsdale and other non-downtown SW neighborhoods to communicate their concerns and priorities to their future representatives.
Get your ranked choice voting questions answered—A representative of the city’s Government Transition Advisory Committee will be on hand with sample ballots and educational information on ranked choice voting.
All District 4 candidates have been invited, with 12 currently confirmed to attend.
The event is sponsored by Hillsdale News, SW Trails PDX, the Hillsdale Food Park, Basics Market, and Symbiosis Printing.
You can find additional info and updates at https://www.hillsdalenewspdx.com/candidate-meet-and-greet.
