Please join PAC in congratulating Principal Dave McGovern on his new appointment as Principal of the Woodland Elementary School in Milford, effective July 1, 2024. Mr. McGovern has served in Mansfield for nine years as both an Assistant Principal and Principal of QMS. Mr. McGovern has made numerous positive changes and advancements at QMS and we wish him all the best in his new position, which is not only in his hometown, but is just a few minutes from his home. The PAC Board is grateful for the support, collaboration, and guidance that Mr. McGovern has provided us with over the past several years. The Superintendent's Office will post for a new principal and a search committee will be convened.

Fundraising Update: With your support, PAC has raised $13,953 of our initial $15,000 fundraising goal! With your generous contributions, we have been able to fund several new clubs and other student activities. We thank you in advance for your continued contributions to the Unfundraiser and support of our upcoming fundraising events.

Current Initiatives: PAC is currently collaborating with administration on the following initiatives. While we hope to make each of these a reality, we cannot guarantee that will be the case. Support for these initiatives is largely contingent on feasibility, funds raised, volunteer commitment, and obtaining the appropriate approvals. • 8th Grade Banquet – PAC is please to host this years' 8th grade banquet, “A Night at the Tropics”, at the Mansfield enVision hotel on June 17th 6-8:30 pm. In years past, the event has cost $3,000; however, to hold the off of school property, the cost is close to $10,000. We're asking families of 8th grade students to consider contributing to the 8th Grade Banquet by making a donation to the Unfundraiser. To ensure your donation is used for the banquet, please include "8th Grade Banquet" in the comments section. Thank you to those that have made a contribution already.
• School Resource Officer (SRO) Partnership - PAC is working with our SRO, Derek McCune to explore how we may bring the "Bentley Award" and/or "Breakfast with Bentley" to QMS. We're working to identify other opportunities to collaborate with Mansfield Police Department and SRO to bring presentations on a variety of topics facing our youth to students and/or families.
• Staff Appreciation - Since 1984, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week takes place the first full week of May. However, these dates run concurrently with MCAS and holding appreciation activities during this week make it near impossible for teachers and staff to enjoy them. As a result, PAC will celebrate Staff Appreciation May 20-24. PAC is looking for volunteers to assist with meal and event planning. This could be volunteering to contact local restaurants to sponsor a meal or to coordinate volunteers for meal donations, picking up and delivering donations, as well as set up and clean up. If you're interested, please let us know.
• Book Fair - Ms. Shultz, the QMS Librarian, has expressed interest in holding an onsite Book Fair this spring. To make this happen, we need your help! PAC is looking for a couple more volunteers to lead this effort. If you are interested, please let us know. Thank you to those that have already stepped up!

PAC is excited to announce that this year's 8th Grade Banquet, “A Night at the Tropics”, will be held at the enVision Hotel in Mansfield on June 17th 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm! We are grateful or all of our volunteers and chaperones whose commitment has been critical to hold this years' event off of school property. For those that have volunteered in any capacity, information will be shared soon regarding a mandatory chaperone & volunteer information meeting to be held in May.

"A Night at the Tropics" is a casual tropical-island themed celebration. Students should be dropped off and picked up by a responsible, known, adult. No limos or hired car services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) should be used to transport students to and from the event. Your adherence to this request is greatly appreciated.

Permissions slips will be available in the coming weeks and will require the contact information for a local, responsible adult who will remain available the entire duration of the event should it be necessary to reach one.

Dining for Dollars is a restaurant fundraiser where families eat (or take out) at a restaurant on a particular day and the restaurant donates back a set percentage of sales to QMS PAC. These fundraisers are a win-win! You, your friends, family, and other PAC supporters get a chance to enjoy a delicious meal while supporting a local business AND raising funds for our students.

In lieu of tasking students and parents with selling typical fundraising items, PAC is pleased to offer a tax deductible option to take the hassle out of fundraising. The QMS Parent Advisory Council (a.k.a. the PAC) is the volunteer led, parent organization at QMS. We work in partnership with the teachers and administration to support all students at QMS.

Fundraising enables us to support our students and teachers by providing the funds for important items such as:

• Student Clubs - afterschool clubs like model building and role playing

• Student Activities - 8th Grade Banquet, school-wide dances

• Student Recognition - Buzz bucks

• Speaker Series - presentations on important topics

• Flexible Seating Options - bouncy bands, standing desks, padded stadium chairs for hallway reading time

• Technology - Smartboards and TV monitors in the foyer to display daily information to our students & teachers

• Staff Appreciation - annual staff appreciation events

The QMS PAC Executive Board is comprised of parent volunteers elected through an annual nominating process. The PAC is governed in accordance to its by-laws, which are reviewed every three years or more frequently as needed. The Board has oversight for all fundraising initiatives, events, communications, volunteer development, governance, and allocation of funds and grant awards.
