Good Afternoon, Woodbury Middle School, As we enjoy these beautiful fall weekends, it's hard to accept that they will come to an end. We have been fortunate with the weather so far, but those who rely on wells will appreciate the rain scheduled for later this week.
Mr. Hadoulis’ classes recently participated in the annual Chopped competition in his culinary courses. These popular lessons allow our students to showcase their learning in a fun and
collaborative way, resulting in delicious outcomes.
Mr. McGrath’s health classes have been practicing CPR. Thanks to a generous donation from the American Red Cross, our students had the opportunity to practice this life-saving skill on real CPR mannequins.
Officer Rich Marsh from the Woodbury Police Department spoke to our sixth-grade students about the importance of social media and cell phone safety. This interactive lesson encouraged students to discuss using social media platforms and cell phones in a safe and responsible manner.
Winter sports tryouts are happening this week. Students must be registered in Family ID to participate. Please visit the WMS athletics page linked below for practice schedules.
Parent conferences are scheduled for December 9th, 10th, and 12th. Instructions on registering for conferences will be sent later this month, so please check your email for this important information. Conference registration opens at 8:00 a.m. on December 2nd and will close on December 5th at 3:00 p.m.
Parents please check PowerSchool for missing assignments as the first trimester ends on Monday 11-25.
Please note that students will be dismissed at 11:55 a.m. on all conference days. As a reminder, students will be dismissed early at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27th, and there will be no school on Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.
The Woodbury Middle School Parents in the Middle met on Thursday evening and ideas were discussed for fundraising and programs for our students. Thanks to Mrs. Shuhart and Mrs. Effes for organizing this evening. If you would like to be a part of PIM please contact the school.
Have a great week!

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
