East Hills Connections Newsletter
Edition #28
April 15, 2024
East Hills Chargers and Families,
Another exciting week here at East Hills. We had over 300 5th graders visit, sent home 1100 report cards, and our 8th graders were all able to meet with the Freedom principal in small group circles!
Next week we look forward to a half day for Parent Teacher conferences(with select students/families), an 8th grade visit to Freedom, continued team events, and continued sports events!(Check out a soccer or softball game if you can!). AND we will present a fun Talent Show in our auditorium to wrap up the week!
PSSAs are coming in two weeks. Our students are going to take some time to show off all that they have worked on this year! We know it's only one test(and a looongg one), but it's a way to show how well our students do against all of PA!
PLEASE remind your children to take their time on each section, get a good nights' sleep(put phones in a different room at night), and EAT a good BREAKFAST! (We open our doors here at East Hills at 7:40am and serve until the last bus arrives so students can get FREE breakfast as well).
In the same reminder, definitely tell them we just want them to do their best and not to worry about anything else!
Students will need to put their phones in their locker or on the teachers desk during the PSSA, no exceptions. An even better plan would be to leave them at home on PSSA days.
Sincerely,
Dave Horvath (Principal)
Pat Tannous (Assistant Principal)
Regina Braun (Assistant Principal)

LILY'S HOPE CAMPAIGN WAS A SUCCESS!
The National Junior Honor Society's Lily's Hope Campaign was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause! Through the generosity of the families and staff of EHMS, we were able to provide the organization with much needed items to help families and give a cash donation as well! Lily’s Hope is a non-profit organization that strives to help Preemie Babies and their families. The foundation provides care kits to families who are still in the hospital, families who are just arriving home, and families who need help getting off to a good start- as well as activities for any siblings who may need some extra support. Preemie Baby Lilian Hope was the inspiration behind this cause when she was born in 2007. From this moment on, it was made a priority to bring awareness to families in similar circumstances.

BASD Report Card Grading Update
BASD Families:
Bethlehem Area School District is updating our Report Card Grading System for Grades 6-12 for the 2023-2024 School Year. The updated report card represents our primary aim: to improve our communication about student achievement toward learning goals with you. Elementary student report cards will remain the same. We wanted to share with you information on the new report card. Please take a moment to watch this video as Dr. Maureen Leeson, Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer, explains the updates to the report card and the changes you will see on this year’s report card.
