As we wrap up this school year, I want to take a moment to share my appreciation for all of you. Weâve had an incredible journey filled with laughter, tears, hard work, and so much learning. I am truly proud of our 5th grade Eagles and all they have accomplished. I am excited to see them soar as they move on to middle school!
Parents/Guardians- We are quickly approaching the end of the school year, please make sure to stop by and pick up your child's medication before the end of the year. The last full day of school is May 21st, 2025. If your child's medication is not picked up by 12p.m. on May 23rd, 2025 Nurse Tikku will have to destroy it per district policy.
Attention Eagle Family and Friends - End of year celebrations are coming up! Please note the following:
- SDE students will not be permitted to attend Awards Days for their SDE siblings
- If planning on signing your student(s) out on any Awards Days, please bring your car tag/GCSD Backpack to sign them out. Students will not be signed out without one these items.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in August. Please watch our social media page for updates on new Eagle staff, school supply boxes, and back-to-school information. We will also be adding " Eagle Spotting" to our social media stories, so feel free to share your fun summer memories with us! We wish you all a wonderful and fun filled summer!

đ We're looking for some amazing parents to join the SIC! đŁ
We would love for you to take a minute to nominate yourself or another parent to serve on the SIC next year!
SIC meetings are always open to anyone who wishes to attend and participate, but state law requires us to have at least two âelectedâ parents that commit to participating for a two year term. The âelectedâ parents are able to vote if the need arises during a meeting.
To learn more about our SIC at Summit Drive, check out the SIC Report to Parents linked below.
Please complete the form by May 30, 2025 to be added to the ballot. Voting will take place in the fall.
In case you're wondering...
What is the School Improvement Council?
The School Improvement Council (SIC) is a small advisory council to the principal and school on issues related to school improvement. By law, every K-12 public school in South Carolina must have an SIC made up of the principal, parents, teachers, and appointed community members.
The 2025-2026 meeting schedule will be posted on the school website in the fall. We hope you'll join us!

Updated Student Calendars for 2025-26 and 2026-27
Parents and Guardians,
Greenville County Schools has updated the Student Calendars for 2025-26 and 2026-27 to include three potential makeup days, as required by the state. These calendars were previously released in 2024. Makeup days will only be used if eLearning is not possible. Other than the three makeup days due to Hurricane Helene, GCS has used no makeup days (only eLearning days) in the last five years so itâs unlikely these will be needed outside of unusual, extenuating circumstances. Details and a link to Frequently Asked Questions are below.
2025-26 Calendar:
- Makeup Day 1: May 20 & 21
- December 19 is no longer a half day
- May 20 has become a half day
- Both half days on May 20 and 21 would become full days resulting in one makeup day
- Makeup Day 2: March 13
- Makeup Day 3: April 6
2026-27 Calendar:
- Makeup Day 1: March 12
- Makeup Day 2: March 29
- Makeup Day 3: April 16

Back to School Vaccine Clinics: The South Carolina Department of Public Health is hosting four vaccination clinics at the Greenville County Health Department. The clinics are appointment only. Please share the flyers linked below. Link: English Flyer | Spanish Flyer
Future Teachers Scholarship: Established by the Greenville County Schools Foundation, the scholarship provides financial support to GCS students pursuing careers in education. You can help support this program. Your gift will go to students entering the education profession and can be made in honor or memory of an educator. Your contribution helps aspiring teachers achieve their dreams and ensures a strong future for our schools. Links: GCS Foundation Website | Scholarship Flyer
Security Addition for Elementary Schools: Greenville County Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all students. To enhance safety measures, we will begin utilizing the Evolv Weapons Detection System at our elementary schools, similar to the process already in place at middle and high schools.
Students in grades 3-5 will participate in random screenings using the Evolv system, which will be worked into the school day with minimal disruption to the schedule. While only students in grades 3-5 will participate in random screenings at this time, there may be times in which all grades are screened if necessary. Before the screenings begin, we want you to have the opportunity to preview this video, which schools will share with students to familiarize them with the process.YouTubeâs captioning function can assist with language translation.
Since the 2022-23 school year, the Evolv system has been used on a random, rotating basis around the district during the school day and at events. The system uses algorithm technology and cameras to detect concealed weapons, and multiple students can walk through it at the same time, at a normal pace. The system is a more current and superior technology compared to traditional metal detectors. Learn more at the Safety and Security page of the GCS website.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your schoolâs principal or the districtâs Infoline at 864-355-3100 or infoline@greenville.k12.sc.us.
Cell Phone Policy:
Due to a legislative action by the South Carolina General Assembly, the South Carolina State Board of Education passed a new cell phone policy for school districts across the state, which goes into effect after Winter Break. School districts must adopt this policy pertaining to personal electronic devices. At their December meeting, the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees approved an updated policy to comply with the state requirement.
While Greenville County Schools had updated our policy last year and this is not significantly different, we want to make sure you are aware of the most notable updates in order to comply with the state, which includes that student cell phones and personal electronic devices must be stored in backpacks, lockers, or in a location directed by school; this includes smartwatches, earbuds, and all other personal electronic devices and accessories. Details about the updated policy can be reviewed on the districtâs website.
In order to interact with students without a GCS employee present, volunteers must have a Level II clearance. Chaperones for field trips are required to be a Level II volunteer, regardless of the destination. To become a Level II volunteer, please complete the GCS application, linked here.
Approved Volunteer 2 status is good for three years. Each volunteer will receive an email from the Raptor system, 45 days prior to expiration, reminding them that their profile will expire on a certain date and that they can reapply within 30 days of their expiration date.

About Us
Mission
We are a community of leaders who work hard to stretch our minds, inspire others, and learn new things through perseverance.
Vision
We believe leadership is the foundation for our students and staff at Summit Drive Elementary. Once students exhibit these behaviors or dispositions, they have the ability to utilize their processing skills into Design Thinking. Students then develop a growth of entrepreneurial mindset. All of these skills and behaviors are woven into the South Carolina Academic Standards.
