Weathersfield Weekly
September 20, 2024
The PAW Drop is tonight Friday, September 20th. We hope to see you there!
Tonight is the last night for the Book Fair. It will be open from 5-8:00 PM.
2nd Grade Learning
Last Friday both our second grade classrooms celebrated finishing our 1st reading unit - Fairy Tales and Tall Tales. We enjoyed some flapjacks with maple syrup (YUM!) while we watched a 1958 version of Paul Bunyan. We discussed how the movie was a bit different from the story we read in class. We concluded it must be because these stories have been around and shared for many years, so they probably change over time. This week we have worked on some culminating activities before we start our next reading unit - Ancient Greek Civilizations and Greek Myths.

National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Students were able to celebrate National Pepperoni Pizza today at school. On September 20, we indulge on Pepperoni Pizza Day as we recognize the most popular pizza ever created. This food holiday celebrates the pizza enjoyed by young and old alike. I think that the students liked the pizza. Thank you to our amazing kitchen staff for serving up a favorite on Fridays!
No Toys at School
TOYS TO STAY AT HOME! Just a timely reminder that no toys are allowed at school. This includes trading cards, fidget tools, figurines, toy cars, dolls, stuffies or games. Toys are expensive for parents and we would hate for them to get lost or broken. We have lots of fun things at school to play with so students do not need to bring anything but themselves!
If toys are found at school they will be collected by the teacher for safe keeping and returned after school. Please have a chat with your child about this to ensure no toys get lost.
Parking Lot
Please remember to follow the arrival and dismissal procedures for school. The fastest and safest way to drop off and pick up students is to stay in your vehicle. Staff is there to assist students get in and out of the car. If you have a student that needs help with buckling please park along the side of the building to help with the flow of traffic. If you have any questions on our procedures, please ask.
Vermont Universal School Meals Program
Hello Parents and Families,
The kitchen team here at the WSESU takes great pride in serving tasty and nutritious meals to
our students and staff each and every day. Seeing the smiling faces of the students in our
cafeterias is a rewarding experience and one that we all greatly appreciate.
Living in Vermont, all of our students have the benefit of school meals being provided without
cost in each of our schools. Since being introduced several years ago, the Universal School
Meals Program has been hugely successful and guarantees that all of our students will have
access to tasty and nutritious meals each day. Working together with our state’s Agency and
Education we continue to explore ways to expand this benefit in new and exciting ways.
I’m reaching out today to ask for your support in helping us meet the requirements we need to
meet as part of the Universal School Meals Program. While our students are offered a choice of
items each day, we are required to make sure they take at least one serving of fruits or
vegetables with each meal. Our kitchen team and myself work hard to source fruits and
vegetables from local farmers and meet regularly to develop tasty new dishes for our students.
We would be grateful if all of our student families could help us educate our students on the
need to have fruits and vegetables with each meal. This not only helps us meet our program
requirements, but also helps to ensure that our students are happy and healthy.
As the Director of our food service program I am always interested in hearing feedback from our
students and families. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or
praise. Thank you for your support and for giving us the opportunity to feed our students, your
children.
Sincerely,
Ian Rose - Food Service Director
Art and STEAM Elective Families (Grades 6-8):
Art and STEAM elective students will be collaborating to make pumpkin book characters during the month of October. We did this activity last year and it was a lot of fun. We have decided to make it an annual event. If you are able to provide your child with a pumpkin, that would be a great help. They should bring the pumpkin in by September 27, at the latest. If you do not have a student in the elective class and would like to donate a pumpkin that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
