In the past few weeks, we have highlighted the first and last 15 minutes of instruction. We hope that you have reflected and made any necessary adjustments to your current practices. This week we will focus on the “meat” of the lesson cycle. This is where you deliver your instruction and the magic happens. Questions to consider... how much content are your students learning? Are you maximizing classroom instruction and using time efficiently? Are students being given the opportunity to demonstrate their learning? Do your lessons provide opportunities for a gradual release of responsibility (I Do, We Do, You Do)? In addition, please reflect on the following...

• How long are your lectures?
• Are you answering most of your questions?
• Are the same students answering your questions?
• How do you engage all students?
• Are you standing up or sitting at your desk?
• Are you reading from a PowerPoint?
• Are you reading from a book?
• Are you dependent on videos and/or audiobooks?
• Are students just copying notes?
• Are students just following along?
• Are students using manipulatives?
• Do you walk around and monitor student progress?
• Are students communicating with one another?
• Are students creating content?
• How often are students using technology?
• Are you varying your activities?
• How do you reach all learning styles?
• What do you do when students are "not getting it"?

We all know that the most important factor in student achievement is the teacher. Trust that whatever you do or not do will impact student achievement. Yes, teaching is not easy but if we are intentional and utilize proven instructional strategies we will be successful. Folks, we all have the power to control what we can control.
