Tanglen Health Office is looking for donations of:

• Boy/girl/gender neutral socks - size small or medium

• Boy/girl underwear - sizes XS, S, M, & L

The school health office is in urgent need of socks and underwear donations to support students in need. These essential items play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort, hygiene, and overall well-being of our students. We are reaching out to our generous community members to help provide new, unused socks and underwear of all sizes. Your donations will make a significant difference, allowing every student to feel clean, comfortable, and ready to learn. Please drop off your contributions at the school health office during regular school hours. Thank you for your kindness and support!

We know that many families choose to drop off their children in the morning for school. With winter weather coming and darker skies at arrival, please keep the following safety directives in mind:

*Pull all the way around in the loop and do not stop by the front door. This will assure more cars can pull in to the safety of our drop off loop and not be waiting on Hillside.

*Make sure your child walks on the sidewalks and does not cut across the car loop. Our sidewalks are much safer than walking across where cars are moving.

*Stay off of cellphones while driving in the loop. We want to assure we are giving our full attention to a safe and orderly drop off of students.

*If you arrive after the start of the school day (7:50), please plan to park in the parking lot and walk your children into the school. Since no staff members are present after 7:50, this will help to assure safety for your child.

Maximize fun with your friends at this special Friday night event for all 4th and 5th graders! Unleash your game skills with gym games and competitions. Dance the night away with a DJ and enjoy snacks available for purchase. The middle school swimming pool will also be open for swimming! Parents - this event is supervised by Kids & Company professionals and gives your student a great chance to get introduced to the middle school building.

Wondering what to do with winter gear that's too small for your students? Wash it and drop it off in the Tanglen office. We accept donations of gently used winter gear, especially:

• Boots

• Snowpants

• Mittens/Gloves

• Jackets in larger sizes (extra-large in youth sizes and small and medium in adult sizes).

If your student needs winter gear, please let us know that, too. Contact the Main Office at 952-988-4900.

Join us at Hopkins Schools’ Kindergarten Information Night! Bring your future kindergartener along to Hopkins High School on Thursday, November 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Meet our elementary school principals and other families, dive into Hopkins’ vision, and explore the variety of options we have for your child! It’s a fun, interactive event that gives you a sneak peek into the Hopkins Schools community. Registration is required, please RSVP today! We can’t wait to meet you and welcome our newest learners!

Our School-wide Enrichment (SWE) teacher, Annie Martenson, loves to use Legos with her students. She could use MANY more Legos, however! If you, or someone you know, has Legos around the house that they would like to donate to our SWE program, please send them to school. We will put them to good use. Thank you!

Tanglen Staff Members and our PTO are hosting a Numberacy Night. We will have dinner, learn some new math games and strategies to help your children develop mathematics skills, and learn more about our school-wide Title One goals. Watch for a flyer with more details.

Hopkins Education Foundation wants to help YOU show your gratitude! Teacher and staff Gratitude Gifts are now on sale. Order one for all of the special teachers and staff who have made a difference in your child’s life. Each Gratitude Gift includes a loaf of delicious bread, a restaurant gift card, and a personalized note. And, best of all, HEF will package and deliver it for you before winter break. Orders open Friday, November 1. Start thinking about the teachers, paras, bus drivers, coaches, cafeteria workers, and other Hopkins Public Schools staff who deserve your gratitude. This month, our character strength of focus is GRATITUDE. This weekend, make a point each day to share something you are grateful for in your conversations with your children. Research shows that even in tough times, if we focus our thoughts on at least three moments of gratitude each day it improves our mental health.

I know for me, I am so grateful to work at an amazing school like Tanglen. Even on days where we need to work through challenges, I feel fortunate to work with students who WANT to do better when they make mistakes and are willing to work hard. When you model are character strengths, it rubs off on your children, too, which makes me extremely grateful!
