Wizards Newsletter
November 15th, 2024
Hello Everyone!
We had our first round of Parent-Teacher Conferences this week and loved sharing all the wonderful things your Wizard(s) is learning! If you haven't attended yet, there are still two more opportunities to meet with us:
- November 20th: 3:10 PM - 7:10 PM
- November 22nd: 7:40 AM - 3:40 PM
To schedule or update your conference time, please email your child’s teacher or contact Emily in the office.
High Reliability Schools
As part of Level Two of our High Reliability Schools (HRS) initiative, we are focusing on improving instructional practices. Teachers have been visiting each other’s classrooms and debriefing with Mr. Whitt, our Instructional Coach, and me. These observations help teachers reflect on what they’ve seen and explore new ideas for their own classrooms. Ask your child if they've had any visitors in class recently!
Winter Weather Reminders
With winter just around the corner, here’s what you need to know about recess at Wickham:
- We follow temperature guidelines from the Iowa Department of Health for outdoor recess.
- Recess will be held outdoors if the wind chill or air temperature is 0°F or higher.
- Children should wear proper winter clothing, including a coat, hat, gloves, snow pants, and boots.
Thank you for your continued support!
Winter Gear Donation Drive: December 2nd - December 6th!
Help keep our community warm this winter! We are collecting gently used or new winter gear, including coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. Please send donations with your student or drop them off at the school office.
After-School Activities/Transport Changes
Parents, please continue to communicate with the school office at least 30 minutes prior to dismissal each day with any changes to your child's transportation or after-school activity. Prior to the dismissal, the office will send a note directly to your child stating the change and who it came from. Calling early ensures that your child will be prepared after school!
You can call the office at 319-688-1175 or email macleod.emily@iowacityschools.org
Student Leaving Early?
If you are picking up your student early from school please give the office a call when you are 5 minutes away so we have enough time to call your student down from class/recess/specials/lunch etc. This, in addition to using Infinite Campus or emailing us, helps us tremendously!
Attendance:
If your student will not be at school please make sure to let the office know! PLEASE use Infinite Campus to input your student's absence ahead of time or morning of. Thank you!

Join us via Zoom for our November PTO meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at 7 p.m. The Zoom link will be sent via email on the morning of the meeting. Please join us, we have lots of opportunities to help and we will have an opportunity for parents to ask questions about our open executive board positions for next school year.
Wizard Donation Drive
In lieu of having students sell anything to raise funds for the PTO, we are again doing the Wizard Donation Drive. The suggested donation is $75 for your first student and $25 for any additional students. As always, any donation amount is appreciated and can be made via check (payable to Wickham PTO) or paid online through our website www.wickhampto.org. Currently, we are about $2,000 short of our budget for the 2024-2025 school year. Don't forget Wickham PTO is a non-profit, so your donation is tax deductible! Make your donation before the year's end to get the tax benefits for 2024!
