High School Anatomy Students Share Digestive System Books with Roosevelt 3rd Graders
Roosevelt Elementary was abuzz with excitement today as Mr. Dobitz’s Human Anatomy class visited Mrs. Abrahamson’s 3rd-grade classroom to present their Digestive System children’s books. This annual collaboration, now in its fifth year, continues to grow in quality and creativity, becoming a highlight for both high school and elementary students alike.
This project aligns seamlessly with Dickinson’s new CKLA reading series, particularly the 3rd-grade unit on Human Body Systems and Senses. The high schoolers put significant effort into creating engaging and educational materials, utilizing a variety of formats, including traditional paper books, digital presentations on Canvas, and interactive PowerPoints.
“This is such a valuable experience for everyone involved,” said Mrs. Abrahamson. “Our 3rd graders love learning from the high school students, and the older kids get to showcase their knowledge and creativity. It’s a win-win!”
The event demonstrated not only the students’ hard work but also the effective integration of technology and cross-age collaboration in education. Both groups are already looking forward to next year’s event!
Ozobots with Mr. Kuntz
The third-grade classes learned about the origins of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade through a read aloud and an Ozobot activity. Mr. Kuntz read "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet while using the Novel Effect app to enhance the story with background music and sound effects. After studying the Macy's parade route, students used Ozobots from the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation STEM carts to create parade maps of their own.
