PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Wow, what a way to hit the weekend! We had an amazing monthly assembly today. After listening to our chorus sing a beautiful rendition of Three Little Birds and doing our birthday cheer, we moved on to our monthly acknowledgements. Congratulations to all of the students who received the Academic Achievement Award or the Three Pillar Award. Way to go! The energy momentarily dropped as last month’s Homeroom Challenge winners had to return the trophy and falcon. However, it rose again as this month’s challenge winners were announced and received the trophy and falcon to proudly display in their classrooms. Congratulations to Ms. Levesque’s, Ms. Sewall’s and Ms. Wheeler’s homerooms for winning the October Homeroom Challenge: Citizenship!
Ms. Barker led our students through a mock election to pick the best Maine symbol. The field started with 16 and has been narrowed down to the two finalists. We have enjoyed listening to students give speeches during lunches and make posters promoting their choice! The final voting will happen Monday. The final campaign match up for best Maine icon is, BIW versus Lobster. If your student is absent Monday, Nov 4th, your family can email your vote (lobster or BIW) to your teacher or to Ms. Barker. Votes must be received by 2pm.
Parent teacher conferences are approaching. Be on the lookout for sign ups from classroom teachers. This is a great time to see the school, connect with their teacher and learn about all the hard work your students do.

FROM THE NURSE
We are seeing increased illness in our student population- strep throat, viral respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses circulating.
Here are ways to decrease illness-
- Increase hand washing with soap and water-
- Increase fluids- water is best, avoid high sugar or energy drinks
- Increase rest- this age group needs 9-11 hours of sleep on a regular basis,
- Encouraging healthy food intake
- Keep your student home if they have a fever (100.4 F or higher)- they may return when fever free for 24 hours without medication.
- Keep your student home if they are experiencing diarrhea or vomiting. They may return after being symptom free for 24 hours without medication.
- If your student has a sore throat without symptoms of a respiratory illness, consider a strep test.
- We are increasing our cleaning efforts at school- such as desks, door knobs, etc.
Reminder:
Cough drops and other lozenges- We have many students who return to school after illness with a lingering cough. If you send cough drops to school with your student, please send them with a note giving them permission to have them at school and they need to leave them with the nurse. Coming to the nurse allows me to see how your student is doing and does not put your student in a position to share their cough drops. Not all cough drops are the same- some have strong ingredients. Read the label to be sure they are suitable for children.

Internet Safety Night
Date: Monday, November 4th
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Location: Montgomery Auditorium, Morse High School/Bath TechRSU1 and the Sagadahoc Sheriff's Office have partnered together to invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to an Internet Safety Night. Come learn how to talk to students about what they see on the internet, as well as ways they can avoid being victimized on the internet. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, a local affiliate of Maine State Police Computer Crimes, has been working with RSU1 to share internet safety presentations to its students. These presentations cover privacy and security on the internet, good citizenship, and social media use. This new presentation is designed for adults trying to guide and safeguard their students online.
