From the Principal
Hello WMS Parents and Guardians,
As we juggle school demands and screen time, it’s important to remember the incredible benefits of the great outdoors. Not just a place for fun, nature offers crucial advantages for your child’s health, mood, and learning. Here’s why encouraging your middle schooler to spend time outside is a great idea:
Boosts Physical Health: Active play like hiking, biking, or just playing tag can help keep kids fit and combat health issues like obesity.
Enhances Mental Well-being: Being outdoors can lower stress and improve moods, thanks to natural sunlight and the calming effects of nature.
Improves Focus and Academic Performance: Time in nature reduces mental fatigue and boosts concentration, helping your child perform better in school.
Encourages Social Skills: Outdoor settings allow kids to interact more freely, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills.
Develops Appreciation for Nature: Regular exposure to nature teaches kids about the environment and can instill a lifelong commitment to taking care of it.
Stimulates Creativity and Imagination: Nature is the perfect playground for encouraging creative play and imagination, essential for cognitive development.
Here are a few local spots in St. Charles where your family can enjoy the great outdoors:
LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve: Perfect for a family hike or a picnic, with beautiful trails and plenty of open space.
Delnor Woods Park: This park offers a peaceful setting with a playground, making it ideal for younger siblings as well.
Fox River Trail: Great for biking, walking, or just watching the river flow. It’s accessible and offers miles of scenic views.
Mount St. Mary Park: Known for its unique sculpture park, it’s a great place for a walk and to spark creative conversations.
Encouraging your middle schooler to spend more time outdoors is a simple, powerful way to boost their happiness and health. Let’s make sure they get plenty of time under the sun!
Enjoy your weekend!
Tim
Dear 8th Grade Students and Parents / Guardians:
It is this time of year when we start to get questions about what we are planning to celebrate our 8th graders as they move from middle school to high school. Here are our plans:
- We will have our big 8th grade dance on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 6 - 8 PM. This is a semi-formal dance, though students are welcome to wear what they feel most comfortable wearing. There will be dancing, table games, a movie, and snacks. (There will not be an open gym at this dance.) There will be a cost to this dance, though there will be scholarships for the families who may need some assistance. We will send out more information about the dance towards the end of April.
- Wredling will host an 8th grade awards assembly on Thursday, May 30, 2024 (the last day of school) at 9:15 AM in the Wredling Gym. Parents are welcome to attend, though this is a fairly short awards assembly. We do make sure that the parents of students receiving awards are notified that their child is receiving an award.
- In the afternoon, after the awards assembly, our PTO will host an 8th-grade lunch. We will have some games available and some music playing. We will work with our PTO to have a bunch of activities along with time for students to sign yearbooks and have some snacks.
Please note that we do expect students to continue learning and continue showing positive behavior through the end of the year. All 8th grade students will digitally agree to an “8th Grade End of Year Contract”. Here is what it says.
For the last 4 weeks of this year, eligibility for the dance and end of the year activities will be pending administrative and team leader review if they do not meet the following criteria. This criteria will be reviewed 3 days prior to the party.
- Academics - Students must be passing* in all classes, including electives. Students who are not passing will meet with a staff member to develop a plan of action to determine eligibility to participate in the event.
- Attendance - Students must meet minimum attendance requirements. Excessive tardies and absences that are unexcused will result in a conference with staff member and student to determine eligibility for the event. Students absent on the day of the event will NOT be eligible.
- Behavior - Students with excessive or severe behavioral referrals at the classroom or building level will meet with staff to determine eligibility for the event. The behavioral choices of each student will be a determining factor in whether their attendance is appropriate.
And please note that we also look at effort towards these goals when we make our decisions.
* Passing grades are Ds or better
We look forward to having a successful end of the year with our 8th graders!
Best-
Mr. Loversky

WMS 3rd Quarter Honor Roll
Our Honor Roll recipients will be recognized on April 18th, during the lunch periods from our fantastic PTO!
Please note: We may have some children who earn Honor Roll status but their name is not included on this list. This is because their parents have requested their children's names NOT be published, which includes being published as part of the Honor Roll here or in the newspapers. Changes to this request can be made either in the Home Access Center or with Student Services.
Congratulations to ALL of our RedHawks who worked hard throughout our 2nd quarter of this school year. A special shout-out goes to those who were able to achieve Honor Roll status by earning either all A's or all A's and B's. All A's are on one tab, AB's are on another! See the bottom of the page to switch tabs.

Saints Helping Hawks (SHH)
Saints Helping Hawks is back for the next month! If your child is in need of additional support before the end of the year, join us after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the LRC.
Upcoming cancellations: There will be NO SHH on April 30th.
Last Date: SHH will have its last session of the 2023-2024 school year on Tuesday May 14th.
Just a reminder that SHH is an afterschool tutoring program and an extension of our school day. ALL students must follow WMS Guidelines for Success.
Along with the Guidelines for Success, student are expected to:
- stay the entire time unless parent communication is provided
- must be seated with a tutor (even if they just need a quiet space to work)
- working quietly and not disturbing others
- stay off ALL technology during the session unless it is teacher approved
- to bring all necessary materials to the LRC so that they can use the work time appropriately.
There are no exceptions to these rules. If students are not following the above, they will be asked not to return to SHH. There has been an uptick in disruptive behaviors at SHH and we want to ensure this is a productive and positive environment for students. If you have any questions about SHH please reach out to Mrs. Batka, Ms. Brummel, Mrs. Gonzalez, & Mr. Vale.
