Dear Mountain Families, we hope you enjoyed the long weekend with the beautiful weather. It was great to see many of you at our Open House. Please click on the photo to link to many photos from Open House. Connie Goettee, LAPS public information officer, did a great job capturing the essence of the evening. What struck me was the spark in teachers as they talked about the teaching and learning in the classroom as well as the engaged families taking notes and listening intently. This partnership was archived on camera and hope this spark and engagement continues throughout the year.

As you may have heard we had a safety incident after school. I was very grateful to Mr. Payne and the police who came to resolve the situation in the after school care Y program. Without breaching confidentiality, please know the retrieved item was deemed not dangerous and was not an actual weapon. With that, I ask for your support to review with your child the importance of not bringing toys or valuables to school especially anything that is could be mistaken for a weapon. Young children may have difficulty distinguishing what is appropriate to bring to school. Furthermore, I found in my conversations with students students are playing video games that "kill a bad guy" Sometimes this gets translated onto the playground with shooting and phrases. There is no malintent but again believe they are not able to understand the difference of playing a game and interacting with live students. I did visit classrooms and will continue to do so to convey the importance around no play shooting or iterating phrases around harming someone. I appreciate your support as well.

Parents, Please note that ISTATION testing will happen the first week of the month. This creates a learning path for students. It is important that the students do not use ISTATION at home until the have finished the assessment. If you see ISIP pop up on their screen please refrain from continuing and email your child's teacher. Thank you for your help with this.

We are in search of a yearbook coordinator. Ms. Heft decided she is not able to be the coordinator as planned. Therefore if a staff member or parent wants to please let me know. Mhairi McKay would be happy to help onboard someone. Thanks for considering or thinking of someone who might be a good candidate. Feel free to email me at m.lee@laschools.net

A huge thank you to Jessica Maupin and Davine Jones who helped last week for lunch. It makes a huge difference. We could use some help at lunch time by helping serve food in the lunch line.

Mountain School Supply Lists 2024-25

This resource is a comprehensive guide to an overview of our school and procedures. Please review this with your child so he or she can be successful at Mountain. A few common reminders are: appropriate use of technology, walking on campus rather than running and riding scooters and bikes as well as leaving personal toys and balls at home and not bringing them to school. Our expectations are posted throughout are school and reviewed with the students often in the first weeks of school. If you reinforce these at home this makes a world of difference:)
