Carline Procedures
We're excited about our first day of school tomorrow, but we wanted to take a moment to share our carline procedures. Whether you're new to the school or a veteran, please review the maps, read the tips below, and remember to bring your patience. Within a few weeks, the process will be quite smooth.
Headmasters Top 5 Tips for a Successful Carline
1. Arrive from Old Hard Road.
All parents must arrive at the school coming from Old Hard Road. Do not drive through the CR 220 intersection coming to the school during car line. We have an agreement with Clay County that our parents will arrive from Old Hard Road.
If parents came through the CR 220 intersection, it would back up traffic and cause the school to pay for a turn lane on CR 220. Please follow this procedure in the morning and afternoon.
2. Follow the "Car Line Non-Negotiable" - No Early Birds.
Our biggest problem in the afternoon is parents arriving early for upper and grammar school car lines and it backs traffic up onto Canova Road and blocks traffic from going through car line.
Do not arrive on campus or line up along the road near the campus prior to your designated time.
- For upper school dismissal, do not arrive earlier than 2:23 (12:23 on Wednesdays).
- For grammar school carline, do you arrive earlier than 2:55 (12:55 on Wednesdays).
If you arrive early for grammar school carline, you'll be asked to loop around to make room for upper school parents still arriving and trying to get through.
We don’t have room for “early birds”. You must be right on time!
3. Place your vehicle in park when loading and unloading scholars.
4. Stay off the phone.
5. Never park in the ditch or road - that means you are too early!
UPPER SCHOOL DROP OFF BETWEEN 7:00-7:10AM
When you drop off upper schoolers, the carline flow will change depending on what time you arrive. If you plan to drop off your scholar between 7:00-7:10am, you'll do so by going through the front loop - in front of the cafeteria. You'll pull up as far as possible before you unload scholars and leave.
UPPER SCHOOL DROP OFF AFTER 7:10AM & GRAMMAR SCHOOL DROP OFF
Upper Schoolers
If you drop off your upper schooler later, between 7:10-7:25am, you'll go around the big loop - which means you'll drive behind the cafeteria - forming two lanes. You'll drop your scholars off once cars are lined up in front of the Academic Building.
Grammar Schoolers
The grammar school carline starts at 7:25am. You'll form two lanes, go around the cafeteria, and pull up alongside the Academic Building. Once there is a full row of cars lined up and parked, SJCA staff will indicate "Unload" and your scholar can get out of the car and walk to the sidewalk.
Please note, parents should NOT get out of the car.
Once scholars are safely to the sidewalks, SJCA staff will tell you when it's time to move out.
When you reach the gate, you'll zipper merge - meaning you take turns - to exit the parking lot.
Depending on traffic, you may not be able to make a left out of the parking lot towards 220. SJCA staff will direct you. Please follow their instructions.
UPPER SCHOOL DISMISSAL
You can arrive at the parking lot to pick up your upper schooler at 2:23pm - no earlier. Dismissal occurs through 2:55pm.
You'll form two lines, go behind the cafeteria, and then you'll merge into one lane. Scholars will be outside watching for their car. Once everyone is loaded, you'll be directed by staff to exit.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL DISMISSAL
Grammar school dismissal starts at 2:55pm. No earlier.
Please have your carline placard hung up so staff can read your number. Once your number is entered, your scholar's classroom receives a notification, and the scholar goes to one of several supervised stations outside, which will correlate to where your car will be parked.
Once cars are in place, scholars will walk to your car. Parents should not get out of the car.
If your scholar isn't outside when you pull up, don't panic. You'll go through the carline and park just outside the fence (on the left). Staff will be there to assist you. You'll provide your carline placard number and they will go and get your scholar and walk them to your car.
Staff will indicate when it's time to leave. At the fence, you'll zipper merge (take turns) to filter out of the parking lot.
Families with Scholars in both Upper and Grammar Grades
If you have scholars in both upper and grammar school grades, you'll drop off once.
In the morning, you'll drop off upper schoolers and grammar schoolers will wait in the cafeteria until it's time to go to class. In the afternoon, upper schooler wait in the cafeteria until you arrive to pick up your grammar schooler and they're called out to your car when you arrive.
Silent Dismissal
Parents are asked to use Silent Dismissal to indicate where their scholar is going after school, like being picked up in carline, going to afterschool care, or participating in afterschool clubs.
We know some parents are having trouble using Silent Dismissal. If you can't use the app right now, it's okay. Your carline placard will effectively dismiss scholars through carline. If your scholar is going to afterschool care, please email their teachers.
We do have a few troubleshooting tips for parents to try:
- If you are transferring from another school that used Silent Dismissal, please try to uninstall and reinstall the app.
- Please make sure you're using the Silent Dismissal app, not the website.
Procedures to Be Aware Of
Late Arrivals
If your scholar is late to school (late is not inside the gate by 7:55am when the gate closes) parents need to sign their children in with receptionist.
Late Pickups after Dismissal
If parents are late to carline, they must sign their kids out at the reception desk. Carline ends at 3:20pm (Wednesday 1:20pm) when gates close. If gates are closed (will not close before 3:20pm) parents will be invoiced through My School Bucks for late pick up.
Forgotten Items
Lunch
If scholars forget their lunch, parents have until (10:10 A.M.) to drop it off. They will be placed on the lunch cart. The lunch cart will be taken to cafeteria no later than 10:15 AM. If lunches are not dropped off in time, the scholar will be offered the option to purchase a lunch. If a parent wants a scholar to bring a hot lunch for their scholar, please make plans to eat with them outside. Parents are not allowed in the cafeteria.
School supplies
SJCA is working to limit classroom interruptions and protect instructional time.
If upper school scholars forget anything, the receptionist will not call for them to come get it. They are welcome to come to check in between or at lunch classes, but it will be left at the little house.
If grammar school forgets something, the receptionist will try to get it to them but not guarantee. The receptionist will try and find someone to drop it outside the teacher’s door, but it's not guaranteed.
Doctor's Appointments and Other "Check Outs"
If you need to take your child to an appointment or check them out early, you must do so before 2pm (12pm on Wednesdays). NO exceptions, unless your scholar is in the clinic waiting to be picked up due to illness.
Biker/Walker Forms
Biker/Walkers need new forms notarized (Mrs. Dasher can notarize) for your scholar to be able to ride/walk home. Scholars under 12 years old must have an older sibling or an adult with them to leave campus.
