Adapted from the Newbery Medal-winning novel by Lois Lowry, The Giver presents the story of Jonas, whose world is perfect. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. But when Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver, to receive and keep the memories of the community. The Giver is the only person who holds the memories of real pain and real joy. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life—and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Through this astonishing and moving adaptation, discover what it means to grow up, to grow wise, and to take control of your own destiny.
This show is recommended for ages 11 and older.
CPHS Theatre is excited to announce that this year’s K-12 production will be Bedtime Stories (As Told By Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up) by Ed Monk. The show will be June 12 & 13. Audition information can be found at CPHSTheatre.com.
It's Dad's turn to tell his three rambunctious kids their bedtime stories, but when he gets fuzzy on the details, the classics get creative: a prince with a snoring problem spices up The Princess and The Pea, The Boy Who Cried Wolf cries dinosaur instead, and Rumpelstiltskin helps turn all that pesky gold into straw. You may think you know your fairy tales, but not the way Dad tells them.
Kindergarten enrollment was held at our elementary schools on February 29th. If your family was not able to attend, please see our website below. You can call your child's future elementary school to make an appointment for enrollment.
We asked our community partner CarStar if Dr. Terrill could stop by to film a Super Things video with a student intern. CPHS senior Ethan explained what he does each day on the job. CarStar was an awesome host and even let Dr. Terrill paint part of a car door. He says he doesn't have a future in auto body work, but our team did have a great time learning about the intern program.
CPHS Construction Trades students recently competed at the SkillsUSA Regionals held at the Carpenters Apprentice School in Merrillville. John Sims competed in the Action Skills category and will be moving on to state! Aidan Slade also represented CPHS, falling short of the state cut-off by only one point. A job well done, especially considering these two sophomore students were competing against juniors and seniors! SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
Bulldog Buddies preschool students at Eisenhower recently finished their study on clothing. They shared their best outfits during a runway fashion show.
Wheeler Middle School Social Studies students recently participated in a Mock Trial with staff and parent volunteers on the jury and their teacher - "Judge Bunda" -- presiding. Students learned about courtroom setting, the jury panel, deliberations, deadlocks and what it is like to be involved in a courtroom setting.
A big congrats to Mr. Barno, Mr. Beard, and Mr. Collier who received Lilly Grants! TCFP supports Indiana educators by providing resources for them to take time for meaningful renewal. Enjoy your time as you each complete your projects this summer! Read more information at this link.
