Note from Ms. Moulton
Greetings, Hosmer Families!
Tomorrow is the last day of school for the 2023-24 school year. What a year it has been! I am so proud of the work of our faculty, staff, and students. Academically, our internal measures (iReady and DIBELS) show that this year was one of great growth in many areas. (Your child's individual reports can be found in the envelope with their report cards.) There are too many highlights from the year to recognize them all! We began the year being named a "School of Recognition by the Department of Education, had lots of fun together at Literacy Night, the Winter Warmer, and Multicultural Celebration Night, and tomorrow we will Clap-Out our amazing fifth-grade class.
As we head into tomorrow, let me express my genuine appreciation for the support that our families have shown us throughout the year. Hosmer is a wonderful place to work and to learn because of our mutual support of one another. We are grateful for YOU and your amazing children.
Does Your Child Have Medication in the Nurse's Office?
All medication in the Nurse's Office, including inhalers and epi-pens, needs to be picked up on the last day of school. Anything remaining after that will be disposed of. Please see the note from the Nurses below.

Grade 5 Note From Middle School
Medication Must Be Picked Up from the Nurse's Office on the Last Day of School
Please read this important message regarding pick-up of student medications at school:
Student medications must be picked up at the school Nurse office by the parent, guardian or parent / guardian-designated responsible adult by dismissal on the last day of school. This is in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations. Students may come to the nurse's office directly to pick up their medication on the last day of school ONLY if their Physician’s order says that they can self-carry or self-administer their medication. If you are unsure if your child can self-carry or self-administer their medication, please reach out to your school Nurse directly.
Student medications that are not picked up by this time will not be accessible over summer vacation! If your child needs his or her medication during the summer months, please be sure to pick it up from the school Nurse office on the last day of school - even if your child is participating in a Watertown Public School summer program. Otherwise, you will not be able to access this medication during the summer! Any medication that your child requires during a summer program must be delivered directly to the nurse who is responsible for that summer program.
As always, all medications that are to be administered at school must have up-to-date and unexpired medication administration orders.
**For safety reasons, controlled substance medications will be disposed of immediately if not picked up on the last day of school. Therefore, it is recommended that a parent, guardian, or parent / guardian-designated responsible adult retrieve these medications at the end of the school year. If this is not possible, or if you are unsure if your child’s medication is a controlled substance, please reach out to your school Nurse directly.

What is Your Child Going to Learn in Literacy Next Year?
Part 3 -What does Wit & Wisdom look like in the classroom?
Next year, students will participate in literacy Modules for Wit & Wisdom where students deeply study topics like Outer Space or America Then and Now. The modules are centered around engaging texts. Students develop knowledge about the topic as they simultaneously learn vocabulary and grammar. In each module, students write about what they read and articulate the meaning of each text in formal and informal discussions with their peers.
Wit & Wisdom notes: ‘By reading engaging texts and participating meaningfully in their learning, students develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful readers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators who love to learn and can succeed in college and careers.”
You will continue to learn more from your teacher about the specific Modules and topics that your student is learning in September!
