FAFSA Update for Senior Parents
Dear Parents,
As we approach the end of the first semester, seniors are beginning to focus on planning their next steps after high school. A key part of this process is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This year, the FAFSA opens on December 1st and is a graduation requirement in the state of Nebraska. Update: The form has been opened early, and is now available!
The FAFSA helps determine what kind of aid the student receives for college, which could include student loans, grants, and work study opportunities. Additionally, many income-based scholarships require students to report their FAFSA results as part of the application process.
The FAFSA can be found at studentaid.gov. Because the application asks questions about family income, students will need a parent’s help filling it out. There are several resources available to help families complete the FAFSA.
Wisner-Pilger will host a FAFSA Completion Night on January 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. A representative from the Financial Aid Office at Northeast will be on-site to answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance with completing and submitting the FAFSA. Please contact the school counseling office or click the button below if you are interested in scheduling a time to meet during this event.
Northeast will be hosting a FAFSA completion event on Thursday, December 19th from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the College Welcome Center. Contact the Financial Aid Department, finaid@northeast.edu or (402) 844-7285, to sign up for a time.
Additional help is offered for free through EducationQuest, a Nebraska non-profit organization that helps improve access to college. To contact EducationQuest, please call 402-391-4033 or toll free at 888-357-6300 for FAFSA assistance.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions by calling the school at 402-529-3249 or by emailing me at ereese@igators.org.
