Calling All Students with Mixed Identities!
Are you multiracial, multiethnic, multinational, multilingual, or multicultural?
At IBW, many students and staff share the experience of having mixed identities. These intersecting identities shape our perspectives, influence how we navigate the world, and define how we connect with others.
We’re launching a special project to celebrate and showcase the diversity within our IBW community. By taking portraits and stories of students with mixed identities and displaying them on a wall in our school, we aim to raise awareness of the unique stories, strengths, and contributions that make our school community so vibrant and inclusive.
Want to be part of this movement?
Join us in sharing your story and showing that we are here, we matter, and we belong.
How to Participate, sign up by this form:
Have your portrait taken for a school display
Share a short reflection about what your mixed identity means to you.
Let’s amplify the voices and faces of those with mixed identities and show the world the beauty of our diverse community!
Spread the Word!
If you know someone who might want to participate, let them know about this project!
Thank you for helping us create a stronger, more inclusive IBW community.
A project inspired by Nancy Sullivan - McDaniel Librarian, sharer of this project

609 individual hygiene kits + additional supplies are headed from Portland to our neighbors in Los Angeles who were severely affected by the fires through the disaster relief program, Convoy of Hope. Our Leadership students and members of the Positive Charge Club assisted the greater Positive Charge! PDX organization in collecting items and assembling the kits.

Two PPS Educators Receive Presidential Honor
Congratulations to our very own, Nick Nohner!
We’re thrilled to announce that two PPS teachers were recently awarded the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
Krishnan Ranjani, a teacher of advanced mathematics and Career and Technical Education (CTE) computer systems at Lincoln High School and Nick Nohner, a computer sciences and data sciences teacher at Ida B. Wells High School, were both selected for the honor which is administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The award recognizes outstanding educators for their contributions to the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Each awardee will receive a certificate signed by President Joe Biden and a $10,000 award from NSF. Awardees will also travel to Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony at a future date.
Congratulations to these two exceptional teachers!

DISTRICT NEWS
PPS Canva Migration for Students
To take full advantage of the features available in our district-wide Canva deployment, we have transitioned to a new Canva structure. Rest assured, no content will be lost during this migration and Canva for Education in PPS still gives you full use of the premium features. As part of this process, you will be added to one or more new Canva teams that align with the school(s) you are associated with, or a "Staff & Admin" team for staff members who are not based at a school.
*This also affects students, so share the directions below and let them know they must copy their designs to their school/team account.*
Here’s what you need to know:
Our existing district team will be relabeled as "Archive: [Portland Public Schools]". You will still be able to access this content by toggling between teams. You will also have access to your new school-based team in the same way. Refer to this guide for help on switching between teams.
You should be creating ALL NEW DESIGNS in your school (or staff) team account, not your ARCHIVED account. The archived account will be removed at the end of this 24-25 school year, so you should copy existing designs to your new team.
We recommend that you copy your content from the Archive team to your new school-based team. The new teams will provide you with the best Canva features and allow for easier collaboration with students and staff from your school. Follow these instructions on how to copy Canva content to your new team. The copied files will appear under Projects (not Recent). If those previous directions do not work, try these directions for How to Switch Teams and Move Designs.
You will have access to the Archived PPS team for this entire 24-25 year. You do not need to copy everything and move it to your current school team now. In fact, you can determine what files you are regularly using and working on and copy those over first.
If you are not seeing the archived team, please log out and log back in to Canva or try refreshing your browser.
If you are still having issues, have questions, or need support, please submit a ticket to support@pps.net with Canva Support in the subject line.
