PAAM Convocation 2024
Updated July 3, 2024
Aloha! PAAMily, this is the special website which has some of our pre-convocation PRESENTATIONS and FLIP Workshops Videos which we request you watch, take notes, prepare questions "prior" to you coming to our PAAM Convocation. Please DO NOT try to watch all of these in ONE sitting. Take the time to watch prior. This allows for more dialogue and conversation at our gathering and less "experts" talking to us, but now "with us."
Our theme is, "Ola I Ka Wai" (Water is Life).
PRESENTATION on the new MANUAL ON LOCAL CHURCH
We are excited that Tracy Howe, Team Leader and Minister for Faith Education, Innovation and Formation at Justice and Witness Ministries, United Church of Christ will be coming to our PAAM Convocation 2024 in June. Zillah Jackson Wesley, National President of United Black Christians and former Moderator of COREM (Council on Racial Ethnic Ministries) will both be leading a workshop on the upcoming "UCC Manual on Local Church." The workshop is open to all! Hawaii folks who may not be attending the entire conference are encouraged to attend on Friday, June 21st! It's important that the national UCC hears all our voices.

On Dominionism and Christian Nationalism | "Does God Want America to be a Christian Nation?"
This workshop aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Dominionism and Christian Nationalism, two movements that have had significant influence on political, social, and religious landscapes in various countries, particularly in the United States. The session will begin with an overview of their historical context and core beliefs, including their theological underpinnings and how they have been interpreted and applied in different cultural settings. Through interactive discussions, expert presentations, and case studies, participants will explore the impacts and implications of these ideologies on public policy, civic life, and interfaith relations. The goal is to foster a respectful and informed dialogue that encourages understanding and critical analysis. The workshop encourages all participants to engage openly, ask questions, and share perspectives to enrich the collective learning experience. By embarking on this journey of understanding with open minds and a spirit of inquiry, we hope to move beyond headlines and soundbites to gain a deeper understanding of these movements and their contemporary relevance.
Discussion will be led by the Rev. Dr. Neal MacPherson, former pastor of Church of the Crossroads. Extensive notes and links are here. Video presentation is from a video workshop by Hawaii Conference UCC.
