Dear NPS families,
Before we begin the school week, I would like to take a moment to honor the memories of the people who lost their lives in Lower Manhattan, Shanksville, Pennsylvania and Arlington County, Virginia on September 11, 2001.
My memories of that day have had a lasting impact on me. I was with my high school B-block Health/Science class when we were notified that the US was under attack; you could hear a pin drop in our school of 1,400 students.
Although many of us have very clear recollections of where we were and what happened on 9/11/01, our students may not have memories of this day that happened years before they were born. But our country was impacted by that difficult and scary day, so our older students will have opportunities in their social studies classes to develop their own understanding of what happened and how the United States was affected.
Students in our middle and high school will observe a moment of silence to remember the people who lost their lives and recognize the brave Americans who were called upon as first responders.
Tomorrow, I will remember the many people who lost their lives and celebrate a country that, in the very bleak moments after the attacks, found power in unity.
Respectfully,
Sean Gallagher
Superintendent
