Welcome to Term 2

Kia ora parents, whānau and caregivers,

Welcome to Term 2. I hope that everyone managed to enjoy some family time over the Easter break and that the children are rested and refreshed, ready for an exciting term of learning, sport, arts, culture and play at TAPS.

On behalf of everyone here at TAPS, I wish to extend a warm welcome to our new students and their families. We trust that you will be made to feel welcome and will enjoy your time with us.

TAPS prides itself on being a warm and welcoming environment for learning and playing and our students do their collective best to exemplify our values of Aroha, Excellence, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

On Tuesday 25th April, a group of students represented TAPS at the Te Aroha ANZAC service. Our school banner was proudly carried by Josh and Keira and our flowers were placed during the service by Alice and Lani. We even had our Year 1 teacher, Miss Webb fly over with her dad in his plane - just for us! pretty cool.

Attendance - Term 1, 2023

Here at TAPS we are committed to providing the best possible education for your precious children. Our part is to engage the students in meaningful, rich learning. Your part is to make sure that your children are at school each day (with exception of things such as sickness, sporting/ cultural events etc).

The Ministry of Education has set attendance targets for schools to aim for. For Te Aroha Primary School, that means AT LEAST 70% of our pupils attending 90% of the time (or better). This equates to 9 out of every 10 days.

Last term we monitored attendance in 3-weekly blocks and recognised students with 90% or better attendance with an Ice Block and a certificate. We will continue this system throughout Term 2 also, although we may substitute the Ice Block for something less cold since this is the winter term.

This week we will be sending home an attendance summary for your child for Term 1. The purpose of this is for you to see where your child is at in regards to attendance - there is no judgement, just information sharing.

Breakfast Club - please know that breakfast club runs daily from 8:30am - 8:50am and is open to all children to come in. We have Weetbix and fruit to kickstart their day.

Goal setting meetings - Wednesday 3rd May

Our goal setting meetings are being held next Wednesday afternoon/ evening. These are very similar to the traditional parent/ teacher interviews of the past. The difference here is that we are sending home a pre-meeting self-evaluation for you and your child to complete. The reason for this is that we want to celebrate what is going well, gain some further insights to how your child learns best and look at how we can add the most value to their education journey in the remaining 3 terms of this year. We are sending these home to ALL students and ask that even if you aren't attending a meeting in person, that you still complete the form and return to your child's class teacher. If you decide that you would like to make a booking, there is a link on the bottom of the sheet and a QR code at the top, both can be used to direct you to the booking page.
