The
Every Child, Every Day Deserves The Finest, Greatest, Best!
One Week Away!
On Wednesday August 21st we will have our "Meet The Teacher Night" from 5:30-6:30. This event is formerly known as Ice Cream Social, but as a district we have adjusted the name to better match the purpose of this event.
This school year we will hold this event inside. I will send more detailed information next week about what to expect this evening. The main things to know at this point are:
- All families will be entering the building through the main entrance.
- Kona Ice will be set up outside - we are thinking the East side playground.
- No snow cones will be allowed inside the building.
- You can exit any location that is convenient, but please do not let people in as you exit - especially if they have snow cones :)
Class Lists
On Meet The Teacher Night we will be posting our class rosters on the front windows of the building for you to check as you arrive for the event. We will have multiple locations for your to view them, so the line does not get too long. If we make any changes to this plan we will communicate them with you.

Student Absences
Parents can enter student absences via Infinite Campus. Please see directions for parents here which can be added to school newsletters
Automated Attendance Calls - Automated attendance calls will go out for all elementary schools at 8:30 for students who are marked absent, and the parent has not communicated.
If your child will be absent or late to school, you can also call our school office and leave a message to let us know your plan. (319) 688-1190
You can also email our secretary:
Joan Williams at williams.joan@iowacityschools.org
Registration
**If you have not yet registered for the 24-25 school year we ask that you do so as soon as possible. You can stop in next week (between 7:30 am-3:30 pm) or complete the registration online (the button below). Please call us at 319-688-1190 if you need any assistance. This is important because our enrollment and registration information from Infinite Campus is used to make decisions about the number of class/grade level sections there will be at each school. This is why it is critical for us to have all of our students registered as early as possible.
Please check in with your friends and neighbors to make sure everyone in the Garner attendance area has remembered to register for school. If you have new families in your neighborhood, please send them our way!**

Free and Reduced Meal Applications
We want to remind you about Free and Reduced Meal applications for the 2024-25 school year. Per federal guidelines, applications must be completed each year. This is a separate process from registration.
If you have not already done so and feel your student may qualify, please be sure to complete the 2024-25 application for Free & Reduced Meals, which can be found at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. If you need assistance completing this form, please get in touch with the Nutrition Services Department at (319) 688-1021.
Please complete the application before the start of school to ensure benefits are activated. Unfortunately, benefits cannot be applied retroactively, so any debt incurred prior to applying for free and reduced status is the family's responsibility.
We are dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to school meals and will provide the necessary assistance to make that possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
Alison Demory

Securly
ICCSD Securly Message:
Dear Families,
As we prepare for the new school year, we want to remind you about Securly, a web filtering tool that allows parents to monitor and restrict their child’s internet activity, ensuring safer online experiences.
Our students’ Chromebooks are filtered both on and off the school’s network. On-campus, devices are subject to the same content filtering policies as all our internet-connected devices. Off-campus, the Securly service blocks explicit or dangerous content as defined by federal law.
With Securly, you can view your child’s internet activity and set up additional controls for off-campus use. Parents receive weekly email notifications with internet activity reports. If you’re not receiving these emails, please contact your student’s school office to verify that the correct email address is listed in Infinite Campus.
Access this Parent Guide for step-by-step guidance on using Securly.
Parents can utilize the Securly Home app to adjust the settings for their child’s online activity. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and offers several features, including:
Pause the Internet: Control internet access with the tap of a finger.
Offline Schedules: Set device-free family time.
Live Activity Feed: Get real-time updates.
Push Notifications: Receive alerts for flagged activities.
Internet Rules: Easily set internet rules for your home.
