Redoubt's Student Handbook's Policy on Clothing, Cold Weather and Outdoor Recess
Students should come to school dressed for the weather and prepared to go outside. All children go outside for recess until the chill factor temperature is minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally, any child well enough to come to school is well enough to go outside for recess. Even shortened recesses give the children a much needed break in routine and fresh air. A child too sick to go outside should be recuperating at home. When special circumstances exist, students may be allowed to remain indoors for recess with a doctor's note.
Boots are essential for outdoor recess. A pair of shoes should be kept at school to wear inside the building. Sitting with boots on all day is not healthy for feet. Students should have a heavy winter weight coat, snow pants or snowsuit, warm hat or hood, winter boots and gloves or mittens.
Student Messages/End of Day Procedure
A reminder that all parents must call the office with a change of plans for students by 2:30. Please, do not Dojo or text your teacher regarding messages or releasing a student early. For safety reasons these messages will not be honored. All information must go through the office. We try very hard to keep everyone safe and going home according to everyone's plans. Our teachers are very busy at the end of the day going over their daily work and getting their students ready to go where they need to be. Our busses arrive by 3:20 and our students start to load at that time.
Please remember that all calls after 2:45 go directly to our voicemail, so please leave a message and we will get to them once all earlier messages have been taken care of. Thank you for your understanding as we try our best to make sure all our students get home safe.

Roadrunners Rock PBIS!
PBIS Reward Movie
Great News!!! Our students have been doing a fabulous job displaying Roadrunner pride. Students have been earning Roadrunner tickets and now the large jar is overflowing. In honor of this magnificent achievement, Redoubt Elementary School will be doing a school wide celebration next week on October 18th, which is also an Early Release Day. Please let your child(ren) know how proud you are of them as all students have contributed in some way to this remarkable achievement. Let's go Roadrunners!!!!Library Happenings
Greetings from the Redoubt Library!
This time of year has been a busy one at the library. I am a new addition to the staff and to the library. It’s been a fun but steep learning curve. Luckily for me, Mrs. Hale has been generous enough to volunteer her time to get me oriented.
The first few weeks of the school year students have been learning about library rules, book care, & check out protocols.
Upper grades (4,5,6) have also been learning about library organization and the different categories of the Dewey Decimal System. This week they were also taught how to search on their Chromebook for library books in our Alexandria Library System.
Battle of the Books for 3rd through 6th grades has started! Each class is meeting in the library during lunchtime. If your student is in one of those grades and interested in participating, it is not too late to do so.
As we roll along in to October there are plenty of things happening in the library:
- October is Bullying Prevention Month and we are introducing kids to age appropriate books that address bullying
- Halloween and “scary” books will be on display at the library
- The Scholastic Book Fair is the 4th week of this month during parent/teacher conferences. Stay tuned for more details.
