From Miss Angela
Dear VAP Families,
Happy Presidents' Day! As a reminder, school is closed today in observance of the holiday.
This week, our 3rd-5th grade and middle school students will be competing in the Spelling Bee House Challenge. Stay tuned for next week’s newsletter, where we’ll announce the winners!
On Friday, we’re celebrating our 100th day of school! We encourage all students to join in the fun by dressing up as a "100-year-old." We can't wait to see the creative and fun costumes!
Also on Friday, our American Girl Club will be hosting a special tea party at 5:00 PM. All are welcome to join us for a delightful evening!
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a fantastic week ahead!
Congratulations to Zachary Fleck on His Outstanding Musical Achievements!
Over the past few months, our talented 6th-grade student, Zachary Fleck, has showcased his exceptional piano skills on both national and international stages. Competing in several prestigious music competitions, Zachary earned the highest honor—the Grand Prize—in the American Allegro Fine Arts Association competition. This incredible achievement has earned him an invitation to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 1st.
Zachary's success extends beyond the U.S. as well. He secured Second Prize in an international music competition, leading to another remarkable opportunity—an invitation from the Vienna Music Society to represent the United States. He will perform in the City of Music, Vienna, Austria, at the historic Musikverein on March 29th and Coburg Palace on March 30th.
We are incredibly proud of Zachary and wish him the best as he shares his passion and talent with audiences around the world!
Candy Gram Fundraiser Success!
We are thrilled to share that our Valentine’s Day Candy Gram fundraiser was a huge success! Thanks to your generosity and support, we raised over $1,500 to help families from our sister school in Altadena who have been severely impacted by the recent wildfires. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference in our community!
Staff Birthdays This Week
While our school may be closed for Presidents' Day today, we still wanted to give a shoutout to two spectacular staff members who make a difference every day!
Miss Bella – February 17th
Miss Bella, one of our amazing support staff members, radiates positivity with her bubbly, caring, and kind nature. She brings so much joy to our school, always ready to lend a helping hand and brighten someone’s day with her infectious energy.
Miss Melissa – February 17th
As our dedicated 7th and 8th-grade English teacher, Miss Melissa has a wonderful sense of humor and a calming presence that makes her classroom a welcoming space for all. She is always eager to go above and beyond to help her students succeed, making a lasting impact on their education and growth.
Let’s wish Miss Bella and Miss Melissa a Happy Birthday and celebrate all the kindness, dedication, and joy they bring to our school!
STEM Explorers Program
It's a virtual extracurricular program for ambitious students ages 10-14 looking to discover their academic passion in the STEM fields.
The program is led by researchers at MIT, Caltech, and Stanford who will introduce ambitious students to the cutting edge of their scientific field of interest. They'll work 1-on-1 with a mentor and create and independent project. They can explore cool topic like cryptography, astrophysics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, robotic control, game theory, genetic engineering, and more!
Timeline
Week 1: Introduction to your mentor and align on a topic
Week 2-4: Explore the topic and identify the research question
Week 5-9: Create project with 1-1 support from mentor
Week 10-12: Complete final edits and submit the project for final evaluation
Complete this application to be considered for participation and receive more information.
Honoring Black History Month
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, our 3rd-grade students researched and created profiles on influential Black figures from history. Each student selected a person to learn about—leaders, artists, scientists, athletes, and activists—discovering their contributions and impact on the world.
Through this project, students developed their research and writing skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for the achievements and resilience of these inspiring individuals. Their completed profiles are now proudly displayed, showcasing their hard work and the rich history they explored.
We encourage families to take a moment to read some of these incredible stories and celebrate the legacy of Black excellence with us!
Word of the Month: Accountability
This February, our word of the month is Accountability! Accountability means taking responsibility for our actions, choices, and commitments—even when things don’t go as planned. It’s about following through on our promises, completing tasks on time, and owning up to our mistakes. When we hold ourselves accountable, we learn and grow, building trust with those around us.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the meaning of accountability and brainstorm ways to practice it at home. Whether it’s setting personal goals, admitting mistakes, or taking responsibility for chores, small actions can make a big impact! Let’s work together to make accountability a part of our daily lives.
First Graders Show Their Love for Reading!
Our first graders have been busy celebrating their love for books with a creative and heartwarming project! Each student chose a book and designed their very own book cover, showcasing their artistic talents and enthusiasm for reading. The result? A stunning "First Grade ❤️'s to Read" display, filled with colorful covers and smiling faces. This beautiful banner is a testament to their creativity and passion for storytelling. We are so proud of our young readers and their growing love for books!

Parking Reminder
First and foremost, we'd like to thank you in advance for your patience at pick-up time in the afternoon. We are currently in the middle of both middle school basketball season and NFL Flag Football seasons. We kindly remind you to refrain from parking in handicap parking spots without the appropriate placards, and to avoid double parking in the fire lanes during high volume times.
Respecting handicap parking spaces is essential to accommodate those with mobility challenges. Using these spots without the appropriate placards not only hinders accessibility but is also against the law.
Additionally, double parking in fire lanes poses a serious safety risk, especially during busy periods. In case the designated parking areas are full, we recommend utilizing street parking or parking at the church next door.
Reminder: Pick Up on Fridays
Reminder: After 3pm on Fridays, please pick up students at Gate B. It's Fun Friday, so students will be participating in activities throughout the school. After 4:30 PM, they will be in the gym. Thank you for your understanding!
