Welcome to Quarter 2!
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. I am delighted to welcome you all back from our rejuvenating fall break, and I trust you had a restful and enjoyable time with your loved ones.
As we step into the second quarter of the academic year, it is with a sense of excitement and anticipation for all the learning and growth that lies ahead. The first quarter saw incredible dedication and hard work from our students, teachers, and parents, and I have no doubt that this momentum will continue in the coming months.
With Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, the 2nd quarter is always an exciting period! We have a range of exciting events planned for this quarter, including Trunk or Treat and Turkey Trot. Your continued involvement and support are vital to the success of our school community, and I encourage you to stay engaged with our activities.
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to reach out. Our lines of communication are always open, and we value your input.
Wishing you all a fantastic start to the second quarter!
Warm regards,
Alan Lee
Principal
Unity Day
The Hawaii State Department of Education is pleased to announce its support of National Bullying Prevention Month and Unity Day 2023.
National Bullying Prevention Month is celebrated annually during the month of October. This month focuses on uniting communities nationwide to educate and raise awareness regarding bullying prevention. National Stop Bullying Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday in October. Since October 11th is during fall intersession, schools will acknowledge National Stop Bullying Day on the same day as Unity Day which is Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
The Department is once again encouraging students and staff to join this national movement for inclusive, nurturing learning environments for all. This year's Unity Day motto is “Unite for Kindness, Acceptance, and Aloha.” Everyone is encouraged to wear orange and the provided Unity Day bracelets as a show of solidarity in support of safe, kind, and inclusive schools and communities. Bracelets for students and staff will be provided to them on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Annual Evacuation Drill - 10/20/23
Each year schools are required to conduct an Evacuation Drill to a site off campus as a precautionary procedure in case an emergency occurs. Our school’s evacuation site is Kapaolono Park (701 11th Ave). This year’s annual drill will be held on Friday, October 20. All students, teachers and staff are expected to participate in the drill. The drill will take approximately 30 minutes from the time we leave campus to our return.
During the evacuation drill, street crossings will be strategically monitored by our teachers and staff. Students will walk up Maunaloa Ave. to the park and return. If an actual emergency occurs, parents/guardians will be called to pick up their child(ren) at the park.
Please have your students wear shoes, socks and a school t-shirt (if available) for the drill. Students are allowed to bring their water bottles if they choose to.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the evacuation drill, please contact me at (808) 733-4850 or via email at alan.lee@k12.hi.us.
Calendar and Student Planners Feedback
The school was fortunate to receive a grant to fund this year's Student Planners and Calendars. Student calendars were provided to all families at Liholiho. Student planners were created for students in grades 3-5 only.
Please click on the link below to access a Google form that asks for your anonymous feedback on those 2 items. Your input will be used to improve future versions of the calendar and planners. It will also be used to provide a final report to the grant donor. Please complete the form by Friday October 20, 2023.
Sincerely,
Alan Lee
