Principal's Message
Good Morning,
I hope this newsletter finds you well! The month of March has been quite busy at The Mill! Our 11th grade students have successfully completed the NJGPA state testing at our 1571 campus, and New Point campus. Our monthly theme was Woman’s History Month, and Empowerment which was integrated in both academic classes, and therapeutic groups throughout the month. The students at LMA have been working hard to incorporate skills learned through individual session into their classes. Now that the weather is changing, and we embrace Spring students have been getting opportunities to get some fresh air, and sun throughout the day, allowing them to re-engage in school.
LMA is looking forward to more outdoor, project based learning activities for all students. Not only does this allow students to practice skills learned in class, but gives them opportunities to socialize appropriately and work together. With weekly gym workout club running smoothly, LMA will be adding additional weekly groups to keep students motivated.
Please spend some time reviewing our monthly newsletter, and see all the events and activities we are proud to offer the students at LMA!

Classroom Spotlights
Math classes celebrate Pi Day!
Mr. Peter's PE classes learn all about pickleball.
For the month of March students participated in the fast-paced game of Pickleball. Combining all the elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, pickleball has taken off and become quite the popular sport. Using a paddle and a small wiffleball students need to strike the ball across the court and score points to defeat their opponent. Students have been working on mastering serving, striking the ball, gameplay, and strategy.
For Health we have been working hard in the CPR/AED/First Aid Unit. Students have been learning and practicing their life-saving skills such as performing CPR, using an AED, and rescue breathing. We covered sudden illnesses such as strokes, seizures, and multiple environmental illnesses. We are now covering blood-borne pathogens and diseases caused by animals, insects, and plants. Students are following along with the American Red Cross training manuals and videos and are working hard on mastering their life-saving skills.
LMA students explore the Musicals!
This past month, students have been actively engaged in learning about an American performing art - the musical! They learned differences between sets, make-up and costume designs for the stage and for film, and how technology influences both. Additionally, they learned differences between opera, musicals, vaudeville, operettas and revues. Students have been able to identify the purpose of the songs; is it used to persuade, inform or entertain the audience? Lastly, students had discussions about the theme of their class musical, the cultural significance, as well as how it is relevant to their lives.

Learning Experiences at The Mill
LMA participates in the Black Balloon Event
On March 6 all LMA students learned about the National event, Black Balloon event. This event is a both national, and international event in which individuals discuss, and learn awareness to overdose deaths. Students participated appropriately in the event during their group therapy, and select students chose to release a black balloon in the gymnasium to honor a lost individual to overdose.
SEL Day at LMA
SEL Day which is acknowledged March 8, was built up in group therapy sessions, along with different academic classes. Students learned about different ways they can improve their social emotional being in school and out in the community. Students got an opportunity to put strategies in our hallway bulletin board, play 'Coping Skills Bingo' and had a special guest speaker brough in by our district Student Assistance Counselor. Below is a letter written from an LMA student after guest speaker Eva spoke to the school.
Dear Eva,
Thank you for coming to talk to us at LMA. I really enjoyed listening to your story. I also felt moved too because now I know that anyone can overcome an addiction including me. Lastly, thank you for answering our questions.
Thank you again
Sincerely Anonymous LMA Student.
LMA Art Work
Art Work from LMA & our Bulletin Board from the District Wide Bulletin Board Contest!
Thank you Mrs. Stenger for coordinating with LMA students to design, and create such a wonderful bulletin board at our central office.
LMA Monthly SEL Theme: Empowerment and Women's History Month
During the month of March Life skills groups participated in discussions on the theme of Empowerment and Women’s History Month. We celebrated the contributions women have made throughout history and throughout the women’s movement. Students learned about famous women who left a positive impact on the world through philanthropic efforts and the use of women empowerment.
We celebrated SEL Day on March 8th having the students engage in activities throughout the day. Students collectively created a bulletin board that depicted the 5 core SEL competencies (self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision making skills.), played interactive card games and Coping Skills Bingo, enjoyed time outside near the garden, and lastly volunteered to share what coping skills work best for them. Overall this was a positive and successful day

2024 NJSBA Union County Unsung Hero - Charles W.
LMA Is proud to honor Charles W. as the Lamberts Mill Academy, 2024 NJSBA Union County Unsung Hero. Charles himself prepared a writing in honor and recognition of this award.
On Tuesday, March 5th of this year, I had the tremendous honor of being a part of the NJSBA Unsung Heroes ceremony as the student representative from Lamberts Mill Academy. I am truly flattered that I was selected for such a prestigious award. It was truly the highlight of my school career thus far, and it was a one-in-a-million opportunity to show to people who have doubted my capabilities that I am truly trying to change the way I once was. Going from a delinquent student in and out of cells to a young man widely respected by his peers and his teachers alike, I am truly blessed to have the support I have received through the last school year at LMA.
I wish to thank Mr. Reed Leibfried and Mr. John Lopreiato for the countless hours they’ve invested in me, and my future education. In addition, I’d like to thank Mr. Andrew Soto, Mr. Julian Leal and Ms. Suzanne Schneider for all the guidance I’ve received in my attempts to engage in the music industry, as well as helping me regulate my emotions so that I can be successful after I graduate. And finally, I’d love to thank my devoted father, Charlie, for the seventeen years he’s put up with me and for taking the reins after my mother Heather died in January 2021. He has been an advocate for me, my confidant and ultimately my best friend.
I say these words with the utmost sincerity and love for all who have guided me through all my struggles and molded me into the man I am today.
Respectfully,
Charles W., LMA’s 2024 Unsung Hero
