December Newsletter 2024-2025
Wethersfield District #230
The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes a mix of excitement and challenges. While this time of year is filled with festivities, it can also disrupt our usual routines. Change, as we know, can be difficult to navigate. One helpful approach is to have open conversations with your child about expectations for their participation and behavior during this busy period. If you ever need support or assistance, please feel free to reach out to our dedicated team here at Wethersfield Schools—whether it’s your child’s teacher, principal, or myself.
I also want to thank everyone who was involved and attended the Community Meal on December 8th, organized by our FFA and Student Council members. It was a wonderful gathering, and I’m so proud of our students for their hard work and kindness in bringing the community together.
As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. It’s truly an honor to work with your children.
Thank you for trusting us with their education!
~ Dr. Brooks, Superintendent
Wethersfield's First Annual Community Meal
On December 8th, Wethersfield Schools became a hub of warmth (even though it was close to 60 degrees outside), community, and generosity as we hosted a Community Meal organized and sponsored by the Wethersfield FFA (sponsor Kate Rashid) and Student Council (sponsor Tricia Lay). The event, which welcomed members of the community, was a resounding success and exemplified the spirit of service, gratitude, and connection.
Over 70 dedicated students volunteered their time to help make the event a reality, with many more students and staff members (and spouses of staff members) actively involved in various aspects of the event. From setting up tables and preparing food to serving meals and interacting with guests, the students demonstrated the power of teamwork and commitment to their community.
The Community Meal was more than just a chance to share a meal; it was a valuable learning experience for students. Throughout the planning and execution, students had the opportunity to explore the importance of service to others. They learned the significance of giving back to their community, understanding that small acts of kindness can have a big impact. Students also took the time to reflect on the values of gratitude and thankfulness—qualities that are especially important during the holiday season. This event provided an opportunity for them to not only learn about service, but also to experience firsthand the joy and fulfillment that comes from helping others. It’s a great reminder of how we can all make a positive difference in our community.
Beyond the lessons of service, the event also offered a fun and engaging experience for the students. Interacting with members of the Wethersfield community, many of whom were parents, grandparents, and local residents, brought a sense of connection. The energy and enthusiasm of the students were contagious, and their smiles and laughter filled the room as they served meals and shared moments with their guests.
As the holiday season continues, the Community Meal stands as an example of what can be accomplished when we put others first. The students of Wethersfield Schools have again shown that service, kindness, and gratitude are values that extend far beyond the classroom. The experience was a memorable one for all involved, and it’s clear that the sense of community and spirit of giving will continue to thrive at Wethersfield for years to come.

Last year our families and friends found the following Concert Etiquette tips useful as a reminder......
Always remain quiet during a performance.
Be attentive and give the performers your attention.
Be Considerate of others.
Do not leave early, please.
Exit in an organized fashion.
Expect a Fantastic performance; the kids have worked very hard.
Give appropriate applause.
Have a great time, but be a considerate member of the audience.
Invite your relatives to come see an outstanding concert.
EnJoy the concert but always treat it as a formal event.
Keep your children that are not performing, with you during the concert.
Leave your cell phone turned off or on silent during the performance, please.
Model active listening; by watching all performances during the concert.
Be Nice to those seated around you.
Stay On your seat at all times for the duration of the programs.
Pickup your Elementary students from their classrooms after all students have left the gym.
Quiet any children seated with you as sometimes the performers have little voices to be heard.
Remain in the gym until all classes have left.
Say "thank you" to the music staff as they have worked hard to make these performances happen.
Tune into to all performances not just your student(s).
Please USE the restroom and get drinks before entering the gym.
Applaud as the students have worked VERY hard.
Waving distracts the performers...please clap instead.
Get eXcited for a great performance.
Yelling is for a Kenny Chesney concert....not a school performance.
Get your ZZZ's before the performance...because there's no sleeping at school :)
