The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
We have successfully navigated the Fall Semester and a well-deserved Winter Break awaits us. I am so proud of the many academic, athletic and fine arts accolades earned by our students over the past few months. It also warms my heart to see so many of our students showing selfless acts of benevolence during this holiday season.
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it can be easy to overlook that some of our neighbors are experiencing hardships. We are blessed that many of our young scholars are working to help ensure that those who are less fortunate are able to enjoy a holiday meal, gifts for their children, or even items of clothing to keep them warm this winter. The La Porte community is a much better place because of such kind acts.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Thank you to our many performing artists whose performances have helped ring in the holidays for parents and community members. The quality of these shows has been top notch.
- Speaking of performing artists, many of our La Porte High School Band musicians recently made the All-Region Band for their musical expertise. Several students also qualified for the Area Band. Bravo!
- Congratulations to our Culinary Arts students who recently became ServeSafe certified! This huge accomplishment is not only a testament of their commitment to being successful in the food service field, but it also enables them to take on additional higher level tasks in the restaurant industry. I am appreciative of our instructors and the local restauranteurs who have helped our students attain this certification.
- Professional development is among the many trademarks of this fantastic school district, and I had the pleasure this past week of witnessing a team-building exercise in the form of a gingerbread house contest. Our teams become stronger and more cohesive with such activities, and our students benefit greatly.
- Many of us have had so much fun reading holiday stories to our youngest students. A huge shout-out to our campus principals and librarians for organizing these activities!
- Finally, kudos and thank you to the hundreds of La Porte ISD students, teachers and directors, and parents for your participation in the annual Christmas on Main. We are fortunate to live in a place that involves the whole town in its events, and your participation helps to ensure that they are fun and memorable. I want to give a special shout-out to our maintenance crews, who built stages and set up sound systems — then took them all down long after most of us were gone. Your dedication is greatly appreciated by all. View photos of Christmas on Main here.
As we approach the Winter Break, I want to encourage a strong finish to this semester. Your attendance and active participation in teaching and learning go a long way to helping ensure academic success.
I hope you have a great week!
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Professional Development
Special Programs Department builds teams ... and Gingerbread Houses
The district’s Special Programs Department today held its second annual gingerbread house-building contest, which was the centerpiece of a team-building exercise. The competition featured teams of department employees from different areas. For example, a speech pathologist might be paired with an ARD facilitator and a diagnostician, among other positions. The groups were required to devise a plan to build the gingerbread houses, and they were given 45 minutes to put their creations together. They were judged on appearance, creativity and team spirit by a group of district administrators. While there was much laughter and fun, teams were quite competitive. Executive Director Billye Trader brought the activity to La Porte ISD in 2022.
