Last week students completed their first iReady growth check. All scores were sent out to families via text. If you did not receive your child's score or have any questions please reach out to Ms. Kilburn. This week we begin our new module on multiplying and dividing fractions. Students extend their understanding of fractions from parts of a whole to parts of a set or a number. They find fractions of a set and then transition to finding a fraction of a whole number. Students learn that finding a fraction of a whole number means they are finding the product of a fraction and a whole number. They apply this learning to converting customary measurement units.

La semana pasada, los estudiantes completaron su primer control de crecimiento de iReady. Todas las puntuaciones se enviaron a las familias por mensaje de texto. We are moving on to a new unit this week! We are exploring Interactions with Matter. Students will engage in activities that force them to answer the question: How can we identify an unknown substance? Students will test objects to see if they conduct electricity or thermal energy (heat), reflect light, or be attracted to a magnet. This will help students to investigate properties of matter.

¡Esta semana pasamos a una nueva unidad! Exploraremos las interacciones con la materia. Los estudiantes participarán en actividades que los obligarán a responder la pregunta: ¿cómo podemos identificar una sustancia desconocida? Los estudiantes probarán objetos para ver si conducen electricidad o energía térmica (calor), reflejan luz o son atraídos por un imán. Esto ayudará a los estudiantes a investigar las propiedades de la materia.

This week, we are excited to launch Unit 2, where students will dive into the fascinating history of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Through a variety of texts, discussions, and activities, students will explore key events and perspectives that shaped our nation. We’ll begin by analyzing Civil War songs to understand the different viewpoints held by the Union and the Confederacy. As we move forward, students will look at how the country worked to rebuild and heal after the war, learning about the challenges and changes of the Reconstruction era. We look forward to a thought-provoking unit that will bring history to life for our young historians!

Esta semana, nos complace lanzar la Unidad 2, donde los estudiantes se sumergirán en la fascinante historia de la Guerra Civil y la Reconstrucción. A través de una variedad de textos, debates y actividades, los estudiantes explorarán eventos y perspectivas clave que dieron forma a nuestra nación. Comenzaremos analizando canciones de la Guerra Civil para comprender los diferentes puntos de vista de la Unión y la Confederación. A medida que avanzamos, los estudiantes observarán cómo trabajó el país para reconstruirse y sanar después de la guerra, aprendiendo sobre los desafíos y cambios de la era de la Reconstrucción. ¡Esperamos una unidad que invite a la reflexión y que dé vida a la historia para nuestros jóvenes historiadores!

This week in Social Studies, we are stepping back in time to explore the role of children during the period of Westward Expansion on the American frontier. Students will learn about the daily lives, challenges, and contributions of children as they traveled with their families to settle in new lands. From helping with chores and gathering resources to adapting to life on the frontier, students will gain a firsthand look at what life was like for young pioneers. This unit brings history to life by highlighting the resilience and determination of young people who helped shape our nation’s growth.

Esta semana, en Estudios Sociales, retrocedemos en el tiempo para explorar el papel de los niños durante el período de expansión hacia el oeste en la frontera estadounidense. Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre la vida cotidiana, los desafíos y las contribuciones de los niños mientras viajaban con sus familias para establecerse en nuevas tierras. Desde ayudar con las tareas domésticas y reunir recursos hasta adaptarse a la vida en la frontera, los estudiantes obtendrán una visión de primera mano de cómo era la vida de los jóvenes pioneros. Esta unidad da vida a la historia al destacar la resiliencia y la determinación de los jóvenes que ayudaron a dar forma al crecimiento de nuestra nación.
