Digital Learning Day ~ Feb. 22
Digital Learning Day was initiated as a way to actively spread innovative practices and ensure that all youth have access to high-quality digital learning opportunities regardless of where they live. Digital Learning Day isn't about technology; it's about learning and enhancing the role of the teacher.
Our district will celebrate Digital Learning Day on February 22nd by challenging our teachers to "Drop Everything and Go Digital". Teachers are encouraged to plan a 20 minute, digital-rich activity to implement in their classroom that day. Once you have your idea mapped out, add your activity to the Digital Learning Day website.
When adding your activity to the website, under "Event Description", include your name and school name. Each classroom and library event associated with a Greenup Co. teacher will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift card. I can't wait to see what you are going to do!

The Google Infused Classroom Book Challenge
Why am I calling this a 'book challenge' instead of a 'book study'? Book studies are traditionally whole group discussions in a set time frame. Unfortunately, many participants have schedule conflicts, which add to the stress of being in a book study. I set this up as a do-at-your-own-pace reading challenge. You read what you can, when you can and complete small challenges throughout the book. With each challenge successfully completed, you will earn a digital badge and PD credit. The challenges require you to take the information from the book and apply it in your classroom.
This book can help take your Google certification to the next level! You have the opportunity to complete 14 challenges and earn 19 hours PD. However, you can also choose to finish 1 challenge and earn 1 hour PD. Pick what interests you the most. You can work on this on your own or in a group.
When completing the challenges, you can design activities for the whole class, a small group, or an individual student. Be creative and innovative! Access the challenge here. I hope to have a few books here that you can check out or you can purchase it on your own.

One easy way to connect to our state's technology initiative is to subscribe to the KY GoDigital YouTube channel. They are building a channel full of videos to help inspire educators to CREATE innovative leading and learning experiences. Subscribe to the channel here! You'll learn a lot from these videos!
Teachers and admin across the state are also sharing ideas and resources on Twitter using the hashtag, #KYGoDigital. Even if you don't have a Twitter account, you can go to www.twitter.com and type that hashtag in the search to connect with other educators and find ideas.
Check out the video below from KY Go Digital. It features 13 Kentucky teachers discussing great technology tools they are using. One of those teachers is our very own James Collier from GCHS! Way to go James!
